**I have already finished reading this manga**
First off, if you are just looking for a happy-go-around romance/slice of life manga, stay the fuck away from this one. Saiteihen no Otoko is noticeably different from the majority of other manga because it actually tries* to be a true horror story, with very messed up contents that might just appeal to horror thriller fans. This is quite rarely seen in the medium of manga and anime.
For something that is only 3 volumes long, there are a tons of narrative contents told. The pages are filled with twists and turns, leaving readers on the edge of their seats.

Heavy Spoilers:
- - - Saitehen no Otoko a.k.a as Scumbag Loser is a classic example of a story that had potential to be very good, but unfortunately it never was able to maximize that potential due to various flaws. Plot: Saiteihen no Otoko starts off very mysterious, its premise is interesting and original. The story starts with our main character Murai Masahiko, Masahiko has the strange ability to notice odours and smells of various people. One day a girl he knew as kid transfers to his school, however her scent isn't the same. Masahiko feeling suspicious decides to question this girl(Haruka) and is able to successfully identify her as a " ... May 19, 2016
I found this manga unique and enjoyable and I believe it deserves more recognition.
The plot hooked me in from the beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. The manga does an excellent job of being super creepy and suspenseful. It's about a guy who comes into contact with a girl who is supposed to be dead. The protagonist is an intriguing person. If you enjoy stories where the main character isn't a good person, I'd highly recommend this. He's a loser who constantly looks down on other people in a desperate attempt to feel better about himself. ... Jan 16, 2016
At the time of writing this review (which I don't do that many of unless the work holds a special place in my heart), I have just finished Saiteihen no Otoko (Scumbag Loser), a manga that will stick with me until the end of time.
Story: When I first heard about this manga, I was pretty interested in the story, so I read the first chapter (after finishing the School Days manga), and from that point on, I was hooked, and all the plot twists and turns made for a great story, so for Story, I give it a 10/10. Art: The ... Dec 26, 2018
This is just bad and, after the first act set in the school, incredibly boring.
I wanted to enjoy this as it seemed like a weird, dark manga (which I do really enjoy), but God this is bad. And so boring. MC is first presented as a unlikable character, which I can enjoy if done well, but that changes when we are supposed to feel bad for him in the final act, though I just didn't care because he was such a horrible person. There was a lot of lazy writing or plots set up that could've been slightly interesting (for this manga) that were then ... Jun 23, 2021
The narrative is like Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets your typical edgy high school manga. Scumbag Loser follows a high school kid that is almost at the bottom of the male hierarchy and discovers a way to boost his status by lying about getting a girlfriend with photoshopped images of his deceased childhood best friend—who happens to transfer to his school the following day.
To be real, this manga has an original premise but falls completely flat trying to tell it. The main issue for me is that this manga suffers from going too big and beyond when it should have only been focused ... Jul 17, 2022
I finished the manga and honestly it is a amazing description of how people can be shitty; But I mean it shows our humanity; How shitty can someone be to survive, how does mental illness develop in a shitty household. How can people be blind to the past, how can bullying and trauma create inferiority complex's. I mean honestly this is an amazing manga and it will leave you with a gutwrenching heartache feeling, finished reading this in one day and by the end of it I was out of breathe in tears... Honestly an amazing manga for anyone that IS human, we all are

tl;dr: A bit of an interesting take on the theme of unconditional love, but beyond that it’s either generic psychological horror or uninteresting nonsense.
This manga is a three-volume length psychological thriller centered around supernatural beings that are killing and replacing people. It is from the point of view of Masahiko, a high school boy that one of said beings, Haruka, seems to grow fond of. Masahiko has always been near the bottom rung of the school hierarchy, and thus has come to be someone that’s very good at sniffing out the biggest losers through scent alone. The mysterious beings that are killing and replacing people ... Oct 10, 2024
...I fucking hate this manga.
This isn't some kind of structured review or whatever. This is a somewhat sporadic stream of consciousness of someone who just finished reading this manga last night and regrets ever thinking that Mikoto Yamaguchi could possibly create a manga that isn't hot garbage. This manga opens up with grabbing the viewer with a strong sense of disgust. The main character, Murai, at the start is a revolting little cunt who has been sniffing a dead girl's panties every day for FIVE FUCKING YEARS. And you know that? Yeah I'm down with that. I'm down with having a story where the main character ... Apr 18, 2020
This story is short but sweet. Over 15 chapters you have a pretty fleshed out story, it doesn't feel rushed at all.
Scumbag loser is an exploration into "dealing with scumbag" mentality in our society. If they do not contribute to society and no one needs them wouldn't it be better just to replace a better copy of themselves? The story takes a sci-fiesque approach where someone is making it so perfect inhuman copies are replacing the former scumbags. From the POV of the protagonist, who himself is a scumbag, is exploited into find these scumbags these people. Will he be replaced first or continue ... |
