Named after Osamu Tezuka, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (手塚治虫文化賞, Tezuka Osamu Bunkashō) is a yearly manga prize awarded to manga artists or their works that follow the Osamu Tezuka manga approach founded and sponsored by Asahi Shimbun. The prize has been awarded since 1997, in Tokyo, Japan. Some series take a topic and showcase the different viewpoints that exist within it. This is a compilation of the ones I've had experience with. Manga centered around a character's pursuit of a subject matter, e.g. an artform or career. Emphasis placed on works where the engagement with the subject matter is the driving force of the story. Mangaby

The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Manga you've most likely never heard about but deserve to be seen more. Manga which feature subject-matters that would conventionally be considered "boring". There are some distinct subsets in this list.
