Both mangas are about pharmacists who work for royalty and have a love plot between the pharmacist and the prince or princess. One distinguishing feature about the pharmacists is the colour of their hair, although it is for a completely different reasons in both mangas. Also, the romance is slightly repressed in both stories, which leads to a slightly different feel than shoujo's typically have.

Both mangas have main characters whose bodies are so saturated with poison that they have become assassination tools in themselves. However, Dokuhime is dark and twisted, while Apothecarius Argentum is lighter and "more shoujo"

With historical fantasy settings and court intrique these manga both have a main male character who is a good person and respected but not liked and rather feared because of their abilities and positions in the court that others resent them having. Each has a well built up fantasy world with rules that make sense in their world but they both have complex plot lines and mystery. However, Aruosumente is a mystery on the whole for the plot of the story so that is more apparent in it, while the mysteries in Apothecarius Argentum deal with more specific medical type cases  read more

The plots are not very similar but both have tom-boyish princesses (they even look a little alike)

Both are romance-shoujo mangas with extra twists, in Apothecarius Argentum He is a royal pharmacist whose touch is poisonous, in Shinobi life there is time travel and ninjas. in both the male leads try to protect the female leads and the female lead also have strong characters but are daughter of powerful fathers(whose wives are dead) and thus they need protection.

Both are historical-romance-shoujo mangas with an extra twist, and has power struggles. In Apothecarius Argentum the male lead is a Royal Pharmacist whose touch is poisonous and the female lead is a princess, in Absolute witch the male lead is an alchemist and the female lead is a witch

Though this one is a manwha, its really great, and both the princesses are tomboyish types :) In this one though the main character was raised as an ordinary village type girl (similar setting/time period to)

Both stories revolve around the use of poisons and power struggles. Both have tragic circumstances around the deaths of characters important and supporting to the main character. Both involve family lineage and succession. Hakushaku Cain Series is more gothic styled with a male protagonist, while Apothecarius is more feudal/medieval style with a female protagonist and a side plot of romance. Yet, both have a melancholy flavor.

Both stories take place in a medieval-like kingdom and involve plot and intrigue, particularly between the prince/princess and his/her childhood friend. Apothecarius Argentum is much longer though, and more epic.

Female princess that can take care of themselves! Go girl power!

I am always on the look-out for fantastic shojou that fails to follow typical shojou conventions. Both of these stories are very different in almost every way (Skip Beat is humorous and revolves around show business while Apothecarius Argentum is more dramatic and revolves around pharmacy and politics) but they both are high quality pieces of work with strong female leads, suitors that I actually root for and fantastic characterization even in the secondary characters.

While the story is quite dissimilar the setting is alike. In both the setting is a more rural kingdom in the past and one of the main characters is royalty, set to take over as the ruler of the country.
