Mixed Feelings

I'm gonna keep it short. I've read it after watching both seasons of the anime, the manga has some chapters which were left out of the anime nothing too important. The anime adapts the manga until around chapter 44 (vol.9 not completely). The story continues in a similar pace and this type of story everyone knows how its gonna end. If people after finishing the anime are interested in knowing how the relationships develops its a good enough read.

I really enjoy this series.

The art style is great (chibi supremacy). The plot is well built and expected to some degree. The length is decent enough, each chapter has around 30 pages so it would be like 100-120 chaps for so when compared to a normal series. The romance was just cute and wholesome. This is just the kind of series where there is little to none amount of drama and just plain wholesome can cuteness.

Don't let the score from the anime prevent you from giving this series a try. Believe me you won't disappoint. Not to mention the amount of fan services since this ...

A point I'd like to make before getting in to the review part, is I've recently come to realize that harem-style manga tend to make me angry when they end, and yet I still go back for more.
This series is no exception, in fact I've only just been able to finish it (not published where I live, and scan sites aren't always totally up to date, so it took some time) and my feelings about it are a mix of joy and anger (especially the last 5 chapters).

The main premise is simple: studious high-school student wants to be student board president, but loses to a ... girl promising a "free-love environment" and throwing condoms into the crowd (hey, she's got my vote), and being in second place, ends up vice-president.
But here's the twist that gets things rolling: the girl he lost to (the eponymous Setokaichou) is also his wife to be, due to some form of arranged marriage organized during their youth.
Because of this (and because of MC's dad) they have to live together, and so bonds and compromises are made, and shenanigans ensue.
Various other characters turn up (mainly female), and multiple story arcs unfold, but in the end only two women are important to the MC: Wakana, the Setokaichou, and his neighbour, the big-breasted school morals committee president, Misumi. I'll just leave it at that because spoiling is against the rules and I don't like to spoil endings anyway ^^

Fair warning: most of you probably know what ecchi means, but to those who don't and/or don't read the descriptions on MAL, there is a certain amount of nudity and sexually-oriented situations in this manga (in more or less humorous situations).

Right then, let's start this off with the story shall we?
I've already given the basic setting, but I must say that despite this manga using various tropes that are present in other series (To Love for example) such as the story happening in a high school and the main characters living under the same roof, it really focuses on the "being part of the student council" bit and when at the flat, both the MC and Wakana are invested enough so as to give us a glimpse of their lifestyle. And that's actually rather refreshing amidst the myriad of harem manga out there (a few of which seriously lack in quality)

The art is very, VERY good. The backgrounds are rather detailed, but they are what they are: backgrounds. What's really important are the characters, and you can really see that that is what the author wants to be clear. Each character is easily distinguishable (well, each female character, the male characters, excluding MC and another guy are more or less part of the background) and the details present when it comes to their clothes (or lack thereof) are very impressive and enjoyable. The two mains also have little "demons" above their heads in certain situations, helping to illustrate their moods, and I find that quite fun.
Quick suggestion: watch the anime. The art is slightly different, but Gods do things look extremely soft and supple (watched the anime first then read the manga btw).

The characters are relatively complex, the MC can be a bit of a no-nonsense stick in the mud when working, but has no problem being flustered in situations that require it. Wakana is cute, pouts frequently, and tries to act adult (generally in more "ero" moments), but doesn't always succeed. Misumi the rival/neighbour is an excellent cook, but a bit of a tsundere (which I usually despise, but she becomes more honest with herself and the MC very quickly, so it's actually quite enjoyable), she's generally rather prude but gains confidence towards the end, and the way she's written reminds me slightly of Kurumu for Rosario+Vampire. There's the weird girl who's always dressing up, has little sense of shame but often gives good advice, and finally there's the two chibi girls who each want to protect/support one of the to main girls. There is also a perverted, blackmailing president of the photography club with a heart of gold (who has her moments) and a couple other male characters whose importance ranges from 0 to "vague rival to the MC".

Despite getting angry with this manga (which is something which commonly happens as I've already mentioned), I actually quite enjoyed it. It's relaxing, the characters are rather compelling, and it's not too long to go through (even though I did dread it ending).

Overall, I heartily recommend this manga and its anime adaptation, it's a good read/watch :)

First of all, this is a manga with a lot of cliches... The ecchi cliches, example: The guy fall in the girl boobs, or fall and see her pants... Those cliches are very simplistic, i don't particularly like this type of cliche, and in the manga they appear in excess... This way of make fun, doesnt work for me... Its an exaggerated comedy. But lets continue to the story, its a manga whose a girl and a boy became to live together against the own desire, and they start to became next each other. To be honest, at the beginning i like so much, because ... the mc didn’t stand still and even take some actions, so much so that in the first chapters they kissed quite often and did more "hot" things... But with the passage of time, instead of the relationship deepening, the protagonist simply goes steps back, it doesn't make sense, because he had already done a lot of things and then stops doing that and is embarrassed about silly things that he didn't get before, it starts to annoy a lot. To make worse, in the meantime, the author introduces a girl member of the disciplinary committee, who starts to like mc. However, instead of forming a love triangle, it begins to disrupt the relationship between the MC and the President. It gets very annoying, because she doesn't assume her feelings and just hits the mc. And to complete the author begins to put aside the main heroine and begins to focus on others without much charisma. After all, the MC is a retard, betrays the president several times, he suck a lot of boobs of other girls and hides from her. And it stays for a long time like that, practically all the girls of the work seem to like the mc and none has a development with it. Making it clear, everyone has a feeling for him, but none makes it clear to him. The girl of the committee, for almost all the work is annoying. The only one who really takes action is the main heroine who is forgotten in the story. Approaching the end, the author begins to create a very bad "climax". Out of nowhere, the girl of the committee, who in the entire work is shy and against indecent acts, begins to become another person, missing 2 to 3 chapters to the end. Man, the story is very weak, many characters are without charisma, the MC is stupid, only in the penultimate chapter that he makes a decision. The manga has good moments, the first 30 chapters were very interesting. For me, it is a work that did not deserve to have 70 chapters, it takes a lot and most of the chapters are pure ecchi, but because of the main heroine, you can finish. The mc have his moments too, and some characters are enjoyable. Its a good manga to pass the time.

tl;dr: A concept that isn’t particularly interesting executed pretty badly but with really good art.

The premise of this manga involves the student council vice president of a certain high school, Izumi, coming home to discover that the president, Wakana, is apparently engaged to him through an arranged marriage decided on by their parents. Izumi however, is incredibly reluctant to go through with this and though Wakana seems to be trying to wear down his defenses he is determined to persevere through. The concept isn’t particularly unique or interesting, but it’s solid enough. Unfortunately, the execution was pretty bad.

The biggest problem is that both Wakana ... and Izumi have zero personality. The hero of such stories not having much to them beyond being very straight-laced and dense is pretty standard in the genre so not too much of an issue. However, the main heroine being so lacking definitely is one. It isn’t even that she’s cliché or too full of tropes as is pretty common in the genre, but rather she’s just nothing. At first it seems like the author is going for an amazing outside but a blob at home dynamic kind of like what you see in Himouto Umaru-chan, however this isn’t really committed to, and overall her character just seems kind of random. At times it touches upon her being a childhood friend, but it does a really half assed job with it. She’s supposed to be super dere-dere, but she doesn’t really stand out there either. As a result, she has a weak personality that doesn’t leave much of an impression. There also isn’t really any sort of relationship arc between Izumi and Wakana either, rather it basically reaches some sort of equilibrium pretty early on that it doesn’t budge from until the end. As a result, despite her being the main heroine and being present a lot, it doesn’t really feel like she has a strong presence. Rather, she’s just kind of there.

There’s a decent amount of side characters, and a good amount of them have more personality than Wakana. This is built on tropes and clichés, but it still gave them some substance. Still, as you would expect, the vast majority are incredibly flat and pretty forgettable. The one exception to that is Misumi, the main love rival for Wakana. This is the type of manga where it’s clear from the beginning how things are going to end up and it never feels like there’s any chance for Wakana not to win. But despite that, Misumi’s relationship with Izumi was way more interesting than Wakana’s. She has a proper relationship arc that’s accompanied by character development. This is all pretty standard classic tsundere type stuff, where she starts out hating him but slowly comes to like and eventually comes to admit that she likes him. Still, it’s the strongest narrative component in the series so it stands out. As a result, it’s actually pretty easy to get invested in her and her relationship with Izumi. But in the end that just kind of feels sad because even in the parts centered around her it feels clear that she’s not going to win. And thus even though I fully expected it, the ending still made me feel bad.

The comedy in the manga is decent, but starts getting repetitive as it uses incredibly similar humor throughout. The one aspect of this manga that I can say is unequivocally good is the art. The art style is nice and the quality is pretty high, especially the color pages. The character designs are pretty good and varied for the type of manga it is, and it uses them very well for what it’s trying to achieve throughout.
