(Ignore my ratings, you should dictate the enjoyment yourself)
What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.

Includes topics that are rare in animanga compared to other mediums.

Yo besties, I've been having a challenge of reading short manga.
so I thought of creating interest stacks for this challenge.
Some of the manga I've listed in the challenge aren't in MAL so I will list them in the description.
Each set (currently there are 15, and it continues) has 49 entries, and the manga vary in genres and popularity.
All of the manga are 1-5 volumes long, and I would love to see other people participating in this challenge!
(All of these should be scanlated, except for a few)

Manga in this set not listed in MAL:
Kono Monogatari de Neko ni Kigai wa Issai Kuwaete Orimasen
Yamako to Ookami
Yotsuya Kaidan

a "response" to a a interest stack called "Seinen is art."

manga, regardless of it's demographic is a work of art. this stack is a personal selection of works that come to mind when i see the words "manga" and "art" in the same sentence, from works that discuss the nature of literature, hyper-complex dystopian worlds, gorgeously drawn artwork
and incredibly well-researched historical manga to battle manga, stupid comedies made by furuya minoru, yonkoma manga and silly romances, a list that barely has anything concrete that is holding it together and will probably be unlisted by myanimelist mods, but it's not like that matters, enjoy the stack!

Spanning 6 decades, this diverse set of Shōjo and Josei manga is very much worth reading…according to some random guy on the internet.
This list includes both short and long series. I’ve sorted them by length (with ongoing series at the bottom regardless of current length).
All series are either fully scanned or officially licensed except for Dōbutsu no Oishasan, which only has a few chapters left in its scanlation.

Manga—extensively books—are are known for their printing within a portrait dimensions, however some series like to break this traditional mould for narrative or aesthetic purposes.

Here is a collection of manga series with rotated, landscape artwork for their covers.

Horror is the most consistent genre for social commentary. This Manga Stack aims to highlight series that focus on the darker side of womanhood, either angled from that of power and gendered dynamics, and mutual abuse of them; eventual self destruction surrounding relationships, lust or sexuality; or the aestheticism of beauty and the pursuit of the freedom it gives. This one is quite similar to my "Psychosexual Girl's of Manga" stack however do note there are some distinctions to be made, especially regarding introspection of the female mind here.

"I think that writing about women goes hand in hand with horror writing. The female body is a nexus of pain almost by design, but it is also potentially monstrous—an object traditionally subjugated, both for its presumed weakness and its perceived threat."

A list primarily inspired by Angelica Jade Bastién on Letterboxd.

**some of these are rough placements and I will need to reread.
