In feudal Japan a deadly transformation technique has spread across the land spawning an evil group known as the Bloodwheels whose plan to take over the land creates chaos and destruction throughout the valley. However a young man named Hayate wanders the lands cutting down those with this transformation technique one by one with his own special transformation that rivals the Bloodwheels, but is he doing so for the sake of justice, or to fulfill his own personal vendetta. It's truly fire fights fire in this revenge story by the famous Ishinomori.
This was a great manga to read as the lengths Hayate goes to for
...
his revenge makes himself and the readers question if it's even worth it in the end. The creator (Ishinomori) develops most of the villains with their own unique characteristics such as honor, friendship, tragic backstory, or even the means to start a family peacefully. You as the reader come to sympathize with these characters and question Hayate's morals throughout as he choses to wipe out everyone with this secret technique no matter what. This along with Ishinomori's amazing art style makes every fight and encounter a memorable one.
However sadly this story's twist ending leaves on a bad note as nothing regarding to it is fully explained. It's a shame since the story was building up to this finale, but felt was thrown in there last minute with much needed explanation. I myself become frustrated as I understand where the creator is coming from, but at the same time become confused as to why it was presented in such a poor way.
In the end, the journey of this story is a fantastic one that the destination greatly lacks in comparison. I would definitely re-read this in the future as I think back to those memorable fight scenes with it's rich characters and fantastic art style with much inspiration. Check it out if this ninja revenge story sounds interesting or if you just wanna read a good manga from back in the day. While only running in at 12 chapters, this short manga doesn't hurt to check out yourself one day :)
