Both feature protaganists exceptionally skilled in specific combat abilities, with simple, unagrandized goals that require heruclean efforts, whose dedication, leadership, wits, and combat ability draw an party of unlikely friends around them through their journies. Both have interesting fights. Both are well paced adventures, never skipping too much time or plot in the stories, and treat there characters like humans, rather than dialogue sheets, moreso than other manga/ln/anime. Both were LN first. Both feature S-Class waifu material. 

In both series, there is warfare, politics, and supernatural elements. The main female protagonist also has a haughty personality with a sense of pride with their role in the story. Both series' main male protagonist also demonstrates unique skills of their own while develop relationships with others. Maoyuu Maoou Yuusha is also well-known for its economic themes while Madan no Ou to Senki focuses more on military campaigns and conflicts.
