Both have similar storylines that follow the love between a girl and a forest spirit. Short and sweet, these oneshots are touching and beautifully drawn.

Hotarubi no Mori E and Natsume Yuujinchou are by same mangaka, therefore the artwork is very similar. Both titles contain bittersweet stories, as well as beautiful & happy ones. Hotarubi no Mori E is a compilation of four one-shots, while Natsume Yuujinchou is an on-going series. Even so, Natsume Yuujinchou is very “episode-ish”, just like Hotarubi no More E. If you have enjoyed one of these titles, then I’m sure you will enjoy the other as well.

Two people meet that weren't supposed to. If they touch one of their lives will be ruined.

Both mangas follow the struggles of a girl and a spirit who are in love, but cannot come in contact or the spirit would disappear/die.

I have an affinity for beautifully tragic anime/manga, and I believe that the reason why I liked Watashitachi so much is because it gave me the same vibe as that of Hotarubi. After each anime, I was rendered rather speechless and mute or the next two weeks or so as I ponder over the short taste of heaven and hell contained in these small packages. In both stories, two unlikely characters stumble upon each other and, before even falling in love, already knew that someday, the two of them will be parted. Thus began the journey to make every meeting count, since they can't met  read more

Both have tragic ends. A ticking time bomb attached to their life-span. But at the end of their story they had that smile of satisfaction on their face that is painful to watch. That reminds us that they didn't deserve this fate, living a little while longer wouldn't hurt, and dying young shouldn't be an option at all. Both are extremely good manga. Hope you will enjoy your read. Thank you.

Both are separated in short stories. Both talk about distant love and moving on from relationships. Both have a bittersweet romance.

There's a story in Hotarubi no Mori E that's pretty similar to Sasagu Omoi wa Hana Meguri. Both of these stories are about a girl who falls in love with a spirit only to find out that he will disappear.

Hajimari no Niina started as a one-shot short story just as Hotarubi no Mori e. While the first evolved into a 4 volumes manga, the later was adapted into a movie. These two significantly have different plots and characters and yet you wonder why I'd recommend them: These are perfect examples of short, bittersweet done right. You have a supernatural occurrence in both: In HNN it is reincarnation while in HNME is spirit folklore. However, both have a tormented hero and a much younger not annoying heroine (a child actually). Make no mistake, the hero is no lolicon nor he has any romantic feelings towards  read more

If you like the far-from-the-city lifestyle, and a bit of romance between spirit and human both of these mangas will suit you well. Hotarubi no Mori e is a one shot with a bit of a sad ending. It will make you feel the feels. Watashi no ookami-kun on the other hand is a light-hearted, school life kinda manga. They both have a relaxed enchanted atmosphere.
