A selection of titles from the gekiga scene, a short-lived yet influential artistic movement that flourished during the 1960s to the 1970s and maintains a prominent underground presence today. While mostly known as a pioneer of cinematic paneling and close attention to realism, it would be more accurate to consider gekiga as a counterculture. Surrealistic, autobiographical, and experimental works emerged as an alternative to the Tezuka school of aesthetics and paved the way for other artists to different modes of expression. Mangaby

The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. A collection of great manga between 2 and 5 volumes that you can read in a single day ! Manga which feature subject-matters that would conventionally be considered "boring". There are some distinct subsets in this list. Manga that has been translated and published in Norwegian Jiro Taniguchi was a Japanese mangaka. He was born in Tottori. His stories deal with universal themes as the beauty of nature, devotion to family, and/or return to childhood. I plan on reading 100 manga in one month. Manga I will read are on this lists.
