A 27 year old man gets drunk and accidentally dies (alcohol is bad, kiddies) and then he goes to hell. He gets a cute and inexperienced demon named Koyori as his guide. She is here to punish him for his sins and he may only leave hell when he has endured enough punishment to properly repent. I love stories with devils as good guys and anything with sadistic women, so I had high expectations for this manga. It did not entirely deliver, but it also was not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

This manga is pretty sweet and rather funny. I read it ... because of an Oretama recommendation, and I really liked Oretama, but this manga was not nearly as ecchi or off-kilter, and the similarities were mostly superficial. The romance here was also a much smaller focus than in Oretama, with the main characters' interactions being a lot less interesting. Most of the humor in this manga is slapstick as opposed to ecchi, but slapstick comedy about people being skinned can still be pretty hilarious, if repetitive. It was an okay comedy. The main character could not catch a break at all, and it was pretty humorous to see him struggle and suffer, even if we are kind of rooting for him. Seeing as this manga had very simplistic art, plot, and everything else, humor was its only real strength and there certainly wasn't any depth to it. The characters were generally cliché and it didn't offer too much originality overall. I will say that the unveiling of a certain trap was one of the only times I've been surprised by that plot device and it was done hilariously. The sadistic demons also made for some very funny situations. The idea would have had a lot of potential as a comedy, psychological, or ecchi manga, but it didn't always play to its strengths properly and the execution was a bit disappointing.

My problems with this manga lie with my disappointment in several aspects of it. Only a couple of the characters were entertaining, none of those being the main character, and the development between them was forced. This is supposed to be a romance, but the love happens very quickly and inexplicably and we never see anything come of it. This manga had a good idea, but it would have been better off staying away from romance territory entirely and just sticking to laughs. Otherwise it could have developed the romance earlier and used it to add to the comedy, working it into the manga far more effectively. I feel as if I could have really liked the relationship between the main characters if it was better led up to, and if I saw more of it

One of the things that kept me reading was the mystery of why the main character was sent to hell in the first place, but the revelation was disappointing and felt very out of place for the series. I was expecting something moderately funny or more creative. It really killed the mood that the manga had going and then it kind of glossed over it. Perhaps I'm nitpicking, but in such a short manga even a small thing can be significant, and I simply did not like that plot development at all.

Overall, I'd probably recommend this manga to the average person, although it is admittedly just mediocre. It was not really anything special, but it was a short read, and I did rather enjoy it. I always looked forward to the release of the next chapter and I am a bit disappointed to see it end. I was ultimately a bit underwhelmed, and there was a lot of wasted potential, but I never actually disliked any of it, which is still more than I could say for the majority of manga that I have read or reviewed. The enjoyment factor bumps the otherwise mediocre score of a 5 up to a relatively generous 6.

Really read the discription, its really all there is to this manga.

On a side note, the story feels like its over FAR too soon, but it also feels like there couldn't have been more written at least in the context of the stories original premise.

Jigokuren: Love In Hell is a pleasantly surprising novel that is packed with a lot of perverted humor, some drama, and even a few surprisingly heartfelt moments (that will still make you laugh). Many people may be surprised by it's content, as it's taken a step over the line of being borderline pornographic, although being a 16+ novel.

Story: 7/10
The concept of the story is very, very different. Surely not everyone is going to like the story because of the content or it's humor, but if someone is coming in looking for a different type of story, you might want to check this out. The plot ... is plain and simple, although it's not super exciting or special. This book is mostly made for it's content and humor, and nothing else. It's definitely for a different crowd of people. It pokes fun in a very perverted way. It doesn't take itself seriously at all, and there are some parts that will leave you very confused, but you can't help but laugh. There were a few plot holes here and there and we were kind of left with a dead end, although you didn't know what else of a direction it would go in anyway.

Art: 8/10
The art style was different but drawn out well. It was fresh to the eyes seeing different manga styles that are varied from the norm of what usual manga looks like. A fraction of the art is dedicated to nudity and sexual situations, mostly for humor purposes. It's also dedicated to well-drawn breasts (nipple and all) that as the reader myself, did not expect to see. They are everywhere. If you don't want to see bare breasts and scantily-clad women, then don't read it. Besides that, any of the other visuals, like the demons, looked pretty cool to look at.

Characters: 7/10
The characters were nothing special, although the personalities were enjoyable. There were several minor characters that were introduced that made the story even more entertaining, and actually created some minor tension between characters. The characters were quite pointless to the story, as there wasn't much of a story and more of a goal in mind. The random encounters made the humor better, as each one would get stranger and stranger, but none of them served well for the story, but fulfilled the goal in mind.

Enjoyment: 10/10
Although it felt like there was something entirely huge missing, it didn't take away from the fact that these three volumes were insanely entertaining and funny. There are even parts you don't want to laugh at, but you can't help it. Being a female reader, although women were sexualized because of it being writen by a male author, it had male humor too. You were able to laugh at both genders in this story. Both male and female were able to play a dominant part, and male and females were able to equally play a submissive part. If you're into perverted humor, this is definitely the manga for you. It's a quick read that is enjoyable but not too distasteful.

This manga is really unique. The best way I can think of to describe it is that it has incredibly dark humor, though that's not quite it. It is dark, but not extremely dark in the way that most dark humor is extremely dark, but rather dark humor that's really violent. While everything is focused around violence and being gruesome with lots of blood and gore, the fact that there are no long-term consequences to any of that, and rather, that it's even a good thing as it produces economical value and pushes people towards heaven, results in things being cheerful even while the main character is ... screaming in agony. That is tremendously amusing with a lot of the humor being simply hilarious and something that I think holds up the manga quite well, though I would still caution not making the same mistake as me in reading this while eating. In terms of characters, the characters seem to work pretty well, and the main relationship that develops is pretty nice, though I don't think it's developed enough and that the ending both ended up pushing the relationship too far too fast while also not taking it far enough. I feel the ending was rushed quite a bit overall, to the point it seems that some plot points were dropped entirely. Still, the ending with finding out what his sin was and dealing with it was pretty intense, and ultimately brings things to a nice, if predictable conclusion. The art was also pretty good if you can get past how it was often pretty gruesome. 

This is a manga that's pretty consistent in what it is from beginning to end, so if you like the first chapter I would say keep going, but if the first chapter is too much for you simply drop it because that probably won't change. 

tl;dr: A manga that is fresh and amusing if you can get past how horrific it is. 

Now this is how you should write a romcom. I mean 2 pages in and I already bursted out laughing. It is hilarious.

The story take place in hell. Who would have expected it after reading the title, right? Regardless, it's a unique take on the genre. The world is unique, and ridiculous at the same time.

The characters are interesting, funny, and complex for the romcom standard. All of them are pricks in an entertaining way. What did you expect? They are in hell not without a reason.

The story is not the deepest, but concidering the genre it has more flavor to it than the ... usual (there is a few obvious criticism of religion). It is neatly written, and the pacing is on point. Especially good if you take into account the scope of the work. If I want to be nitpicky, than I would say the ending could be 1 or 2 chapters longer. I wouldn't call it rushed per say, but it would have been nice to read a little bit more details.

As for the visuals, it is well drawn. Also there is a copious amount of fanservice, but at least it fits the theme (and the plot). I mean where else would you expect to find a big pile of perverted people, if not in the hell?

All in all it is a must read, if you like the absurd, violent dark humor. I'm pretty sure you will love this one. Note though that if you are sensitive to gore, this may be not for you.

I bought the manga omnibus and cannot be happier. If you want a short manga with plot and PLOT, this manga does not disappoint.

The story is actually interesting. The drawing is clean and pretty. The fan service is real. The characters are not boring and actually fun to get to know.

The world depiction is great. There are many funny moments. There is more than just ecchi, there is also a bit of gore. I did not expect the gore part, but it was a nice surprise, not that I love gore, but sometimes i just want to feel, yaknowwhatimean? The author was daring for sure
