Wow. I didn't think I'd be wrapped up in a story as hard as I did with this one.
First of all, this is a fantasy world, but it does NOT include jrpg elements... only classic DnD classes. Hah, but it's played down to just an adventure story. No loot system or ranking up. Nope, this is the way anime and manga was meant to be.
Now the story is pretty interesting as everyone's trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. First it starts with mages being overpowered dicks, then they get nerfed into being civilians, and that's where we drop off.
...
Now it's up to our cross-dressing protagonist and his friends to do something.
So then there are the characters.
There's Melrose, who's a naive young boy new to adventuring. He's actually pulls off his role nicely and is actually someone you can root for.
Then there's Mustain, who's a veteran bard. Also, all the bards play metal and heavy rock, and while it felt gimmicky at first, it grew on me fast as I start to love the thrill, even though nothing was playing.
And the last one I'll mention is Shaenando or as I keep reading it, Sharknado. Delicious, brown, amazon, warrior waifu GOLD. Seriously, she is 10/10 flawless diamonds. Now, Dark Air, might not have come up with the white hair and brown skin waifu combo, but holy hell is it perfected here. Criminally underrated if you ask me. Anyways she does a nice job playing as a warrior and tanking for her team.
Some people might be turned off by her attire which might make people think it's fanservice, and it totally isBUT BUT BUTBUT BUT BUT BUT, before I lose anybody here, it's done in a tasteful non-objectifying manner. She's a skillful warrior that delivers and takes hits, but is not a softy or forced into anything untasteful like that. No, it's just an outfit. And a nice body.
Now there is a whole world of setting and plenty of characters you'll meet on a rockin adventure fighting other parties and trying to finish this epic quest. One thing people may or may not like is that it stays on track and focused. No side quests here. There's a big boss and we gotta deal with him. Everything else is just part of the journey.
The art is pretty great. Pretty even and well done all across the board. Very consistent and hot damn the mangaka knows his anatomy. The bodies in their dynamic and original poses are realistic. I mean, sure anime faces, but otherwise it's got a lot of appreciation for the limits of the human body.
Now I loved this adventure. It was so much fun and I couldn't help but feel invested in every battle. The fights feel so alive. The story is great. The true grandeur and sense of epicness is something I find rarely, in any medium, but here it feels so great. I find the lack of following for this is a catastrophe. I regret not reading this sooner.
