The story: Absolutely adorable. The gradual growth of feelings between the two boys is incredibly cute and definitely pulls at the heart strings. I found myself squealing at my computer screen QUITE often.
The art: GORGEOUS. I'm very picky about art and it can either make or break a manga for me, but this art definitely made it. Everything was fantastic and facial expressions were expressive and SO cute. I absolutely adored it.
The characters: Throughout the manga, we see a steady growth of not only the relationship between the two boys, but also the growth of the boys themselves. You really see Endou start

TL;DR: 8/10
Copied from Tumblr review While still fitting with Junko’s tone of style, this story is has very interesting main character that you want to invest in. Of course, Mister Showa… I mean Kouhei, does exhibit signs of being the stereotypical misunderstood punk with a heart of gold, it’s expressed in a way that is very refreshing even if close to being a trope. I don’t really have any problems with this manga other than I find Hiroshi’s relationships to everyone seems to be portrayed as negative or non-existent (I mean, his parents are way too passive for a child who is a middle school drop-out in ... Well, this manga certainly had potential, until the finale came.
We have a quite typical setting of “boy gets bullied because he’s gay”. With it we have bundled another quite typical “rough looking but actually caring” character archetype. We even get the cliché “delinquent-looking person picks up a kitten in rain” scene, but as the manga is self-aware about that and acknowledges that was corny, I’ll let that one pass. While the main themes here are nothing new, they are executed quite well, with the characters having some actual characters, and for having just few chapters the story actually develops quite nicely. That is, as mentioned, until ... Apr 29, 2017
Short and sweet, this manga tops my list of favorites. Although riddled with romantic clichés that hopeless-romantic readers can't seem to get enough of, these clichés are approached in an original way that toys with your emotions and keeps you reading start to finish.
It is rare that I find a story that makes me grin like an idiot, unable to control my outward emotions as I become absorbed in the lives of the characters, but this is surely one of those stories. Despite only a few chapters, the author creates well thought out characters and a page-turning plot with a satisfying storyline from start to ... Jun 17, 2016
It has quite a few cliches, but this story pulls them off in quite an appealing manner. Its quite simple, which makes this story a fairy light hearted read (minus a few...parts), The artwork is flipping adorable and the characters are super cute. They seem to have the structure of a proper relationship, but dont completely fit within the stereotypical "seme" and "uke" molds.
If they were straight, i'd do both of the mains. The artist drew them to contrast each other perfectly, but still appeal to the audience, which I loved. The handled their sexualities in such a realistic and appealing manner (and it ... Jun 14, 2016
One of my favorite yaoi mangas ever. The story is full of cliches, but it's well done, it's adorable, and the characters and likeable and easy to symphatize with. In addition, the art is very pretty.
The way the characters deal with their sexualities is well handled and realistic, something I don't often see in yaoi. They both get character development and their relationships grows in a way that feels natural and makes you want to root for them. Overall, a really cute manga for all those that want an adorable love story with some sex. It leaves a nice aftertaste. Feb 13, 2016
Story: 9/10 - I really enjoyed the story, it's very cute and I feel happy after reading it. My only little regret is the fact that it's not any longer....
Art: 10/10 - This is my favorite art style and Junko-sensei is one of my favorite mangakas!! The art is wonderful and kinda quirky in some ways-brings out real talent! Characters: 9/10 - I think that my favorite character Haru-san, and I tend to like minor characters more than the main ones. I think that the character development was well paced, especially in such a short piece. Enjoyment: 10/10 - Like I said before, I really ... Feb 23, 2021
This is the type of manga that I really like to read. I found that Konbini-kun is a sweet manga, with a pretty good plot. Before reading it I might have guessed there would have been some cringy situations and same ol’ character types, but that was not the case. All I felt reading this manga was empathy, sadness and joy.
There were definitely some cliché like moments, but the way this is written nothing screamed cliché to me. I’m actually amazed at how much I liked reading it. This is going 100% in my top favourite mangas. It’s just so sweet. |
