Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas Gaiden provides us short stories of the gold saints, mostly of their stories are from before the Holy War, or from while they were training to be the gold saints, and also some of them are events from after the War.
The manga is very nice if you already read the Lost Canvas manga and want to know more about the gold saints – since some of them weren't explored that much in the original manga –, or if you simply liked an specific saint and want to hear some stories about his past. The Lost Canvas Gaiden, are 16 volumes, which tell 14 stories, dedicated to each of the principal Gold Saints (Gemini and Aries have 2 volumes, as well as the Old Twins, Sage and Hakurei).
The merit of these 16 volumes is therefore to further enrich its main characters, with various missions in the past (or some, in the future) and new backgrounds, perhaps even on a level of powers and space (think for example of Virgo Asmita, who in the main story has not had the chance to face great enemies).
