The Seiun Award (星雲賞, Seiunshou) is a Japanese speculative fiction award for the best science fiction works and achievements during the preceding year. Organized and overseen by the Science Fiction Fan Groups' Association of Nippon (SFFAN; 日本SFファングループ連合会議, Nihon SF Fan Group Rengou Kaigi), the awards were given each year at the annual Japan Science Fiction Convention. The Shogakukan Manga Award (小学館漫画賞, Shōgakukan Mangashō) is one of Japan's major manga awards, sponsored by Shogakukan Publishing. It has been awarded annually for serialized manga since 1955 and features candidates from a number of publishers. Each winning work will be honored with a bronze statuette and a prize of 1 million yen (about US$9,000). Named after Osamu Tezuka, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (手塚治虫文化賞, Tezuka Osamu Bunkashō) is a yearly manga prize awarded to manga artists or their works that follow the Osamu Tezuka manga approach founded and sponsored by Asahi Shimbun. The prize has been awarded since 1997, in Tokyo, Japan. The list of manga that are considered the most recognizable in Shonen genre, including the Big 3 of Shonen Jump. Can be used as a reference sheet for newcomers to the manga industry. Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022. Worldbuilding - "the process of constructing a world, originally an imaginary one, sometimes associated with a fictional universe." These kinds of manga are usually set in a fantasy and/or sci-fi world, and excel at establishing & showcasing the rules/history/economy of their fictional universe. List was created through collective data from multiple websites of people's answers as to what manga are considered to have great world building. Number of sales and date that number was acquired from in notes for each. Some of them I have personally estimated a higher figure than the date says. Must Haves: I'm disabled, so I read a lot of content looking for representation. A common problem with this content is that it is not handled well and/or is actually ableist. I wanted to make a list of disability representation, or stories with disabled characters in general, that are safe for anyone else looking for representation or perhaps hoping to learn more about disabilities. In the world of the anime and manga industry, it is rarely seen that a female manga artist comes at the top of the chain. Most of the popular anime series are written by male authors. One Piece, Naruto, AOT, Jujutsu Kaisen, all these notable manga’s are from male artists. And, there is no end to this list. But, what about anime by female manga artists? Body horror also known as organic horror and bio-horror is a sub-genre of horror in cinema and literature, characterized by special attention to the human body and its transformations. Typical body horror motifs are various diseases, decay, parasitism, mutation and transformation, experiments with the human body and the creation of monsters like Frankenstein's monster. This is for your friends who only know manga through anime or only relate it to shonen and H, it’s not necessarily directed at a “manga beginner” but for someone who wants to understand it better as a medium. More than 1 volume, well drawn, easy to follow yet interesting visual and narratively. |
