Worldbuilding - "the process of constructing a world, originally an imaginary one, sometimes associated with a fictional universe." These kinds of manga are usually set in a fantasy and/or sci-fi world, and excel at establishing & showcasing the rules/history/economy of their fictional universe. List was created through collective data from multiple websites of people's answers as to what manga are considered to have great world building. Number of sales and date that number was acquired from in notes for each. Some of them I have personally estimated a higher figure than the date says. Go Nagai's Devilman is one of the most influential manga of all time. A seminal effort in both themes and tone, it set the standard and paved the way for the gory, edgy stories popular today among the teenagers and young adults. You'd be surprised just how many of them trace their thematic lineage to the ol' Devilboi. aka "don't let your kid read this alone" manga, or "why the F is this Shounen?" manga. The Masked Man is an American YouTuber who makes videos primarily about manga, but also anime, and very occasionally video games. He does in-depth analysis on the subjects he talks about. Here is his top 50 manga. Not for the faint hearted. These are manga series that will put your physical and emotional endurance to test. |
