Both are similar in a way that the girls fell in love with someone who is older than them. Both have a similar feel of pacing and kinda looks traditional-ish.

The story are far different. But i feel the male main charracter have alot in comon. Plus both has war play a part in it. The two girls are a bit different but I think the level of comfort they provide for their husbands if about the same. Also the period of time that butterfly spends winning over her guy is comprable to the time it takes the pricess to start supporting her husband. Well as much as aten year old bride can anyway. Both are very cute, and have a serious period where major events around them cause problems with thier relationship. Even though  read more

Two torrid, period romances. In Madame Petit, the main character is newly married to an older man, but eventually winds up running all over Europe with an Indian prince. In Mademoiselle Butterfly, a young woman is in love with her neighbor whose trade is illegal (he is a tattoo artist during the Showa Era when tattooing was a crime).

They are both about a girl who is sold to the red light district during the Edo period. Both of them are in love with an older guy (in Oiran Girl he is only slightly older tough) who protects them. Also they both fall in love in their childhood years.

Both mangas are set in an historic time and the main male character is of bigger social status the the female leads, both females are strong and kind hearted, both have drama (Mademoiselle Butterfly is more dramatic),both with happy ending. If you liked one of them you must give it a try to the other one.

Both are bittersweet romance stories around the World War II

They don't really have much in common except they're both romantic tragedies.

Two very sweet stories with innocent and cheerful main characters who love the man who takes care of them.

Both have as main protagonist a woman/man that makes tattoos. Also in both, the girl is from lower status than the boy. Lovely romance.

Their plots are similar - boy falls in love childhood friend who also happens to be courtesan. Though Sonezaki Shinjuu is a lot more echhi and Mademoiselle Butterfly has a lot more drama.

Both are heartwarming stories that revolve around paint, hardship and the slow blossom of love between a young female character and an older artist. If you liked one, I would recommend reading the other as well.
