Slopfest to the max. Bones is another cookie cutter revenge manhwa in a stereotypical modern-adjacent AU where the world is populated by gates and awakened humans.
There isn’t an original bone in this manwha’s body, and that little bit of wordplay is more clever than anything Bones offers.
Bones exists solely as a vehicle to show off the creator's cool monster design for their MC, and as a fan of the type of body horror edge they aim for, I have to admit they do a good job in pulling that off. The art and designs are undeniably the one redeeming factor that remains consistent throughout this
...
trash heap.
And as far as praise goes, that’s where it begins and ends. It would be generous to call anything Bones has characters or story, and if you fail at those two simple aspects, what’s the point?
In fact, that sums up Bones pretty well. Why read it? For a power fantasy? Sure, if you can even call it that when the powers involved are suffering for everybody. For a satisfying revenge story? Well, no. When the majority of antagonists are massive pieces of shit and sadists, it’s hard to take any satisfaction in their downfall because it’s obvious they exist as one-dimensional caricatures meant to be knocked down by the MC. Violence and carnage? You’re going to get that, yes. But at the same time, you can get it from plenty of other stories and they might even come with a few redeeming qualities.
There is no reason to read Bones. It is a toothless, boring gorefest. Everything it does, something else has done before and done it better.
