This review contains “Quintessential Quintuplets” spoilers? What am I smoking.
“Whaaaaaa… just happened?”
“…”
“Please tell me there’s another chapter.”
“F*ck.”
This manga is an absolute roller coaster of emotions; despite conventional norms, the rollercoaster isn’t one of those where the author makes you go from happy, sad, confused, etc. but I genuinely couldn’t tell if I liked this manga or not because every character initially seemed so shallow.
...
I thought the fmc had a dry-@ss personality, the other fmc was your stereotypical cute, energetic girl that is being really selfish (I still hate you Yotsuba, Nino best girl. Ahem.), and the mc was your average embarrassing mc that somehow bagged the prettiest girl in school for plot reasons.
Yet, I was clearly not familiar with the author’s game because the mc has his moments where he isn’t embarrassing, and the once dry fmc, though still dry, has a really wholesome and cute side to her personality that’s revealed through her actions.
As for the energetic version… Sorry, Quintessential Quintuplets has scarred me. Putting that bias aside, part of me wished she wasn’t in the story, but I can’t deny that she adds a lot of spice and cute moments — the author handled her character well since they didn’t reveal too much about her previous timeline but sprinkled in some hints here and there with the storyline.
Speaking of the plot. Jeez. It combines some seen before tropes with the “split personalities” and “choose me or __,” but it was written extremely well. Besides for some plot holes or unsatisfying explanations for love, the story maintains an interesting narrative, and it continues to get better as more twists happen. Seriously, chapter 5 made me contemplate everything I thought about my Quintessential Quintuplets trauma… maybe extroverted girls aren’t so bad…
Ahem. Getting back on track, the story initially seems weak, as it looked like the author didn’t know what to write past a one-shot, the story rebounds right back, and completely takes you by surprise with the sudden switch-ups in the plot and characters.
… does this mean there won’t be a harem ending? F*ck. I. Can’t. Handle. Another. Extroverted. Girl. Trauma.
