It's quite sad that Jump has decided to cancel this manga, but what else could they do? The manga received average to no response from the Japanese audience, so it's clear why it was canceled. It was unbearable for me to learn that it was getting the axe, but I realized that some people dismissed it, maybe due to its weird title or other reasons. I myself didn't check it out for at least two months because of its strange title name. But when I saw mostly positive vibes regarding this manga in our manga and anime community, I decided to check it out and ... really started enjoying it from the bottom of my heart.

This manga covers competitive sports and delivers incredible emotional beats. As a character journey, it's a near-perfect combination of themes that I truly admired while reading. It had something extraordinary inside, but external factors never worked in its favor. This kept it from reaching a better position, which could have been crucial in avoiding the danger of getting the axe. Although I don't know why the audience was so unaware of this series, it didn't get the recognition it deserved during its more than five-month run and was eventually canceled. I don't know what went wrong, but now it can't be restored. I can confidently say that this was the best axed manga in a while. I rarely be so comfortable reading a manga facing cancellation, and hardly have I ever been so disappointed by one being axed and in the case of GGG, I was just sad like some unfixable danger unleashed.

It has been my go-to comfort manga since the time I began reading, and every Sunday, when the chapters were released became my focus. But now, that satisfaction is no more, and I am at a loss to find another manga in JUMP that is as good as GGG in terms of providing that go-to comfort.


That said, I highly recommend reading it. Go ahead and read it; it's a great read! Unfortunately, it has been discontinued, and there's nothing we can do to change that. We are mad, mad readers, and to prove it, we are forever here to support the best of mangas. So please, don't override this one, go ahead and read it.

The character writing is very well done. It's a manga about golf, but those who don't like or even dislike golf will enjoy this series. It features a motivational story that hits well emotionally. I personally quite like golf, so I may have some bias, however. Though, that means I can say that people who do like golf will enjoy this manga even more. It depicts golf in an interesting way, and shows many different aspects of the sport.

It was incredibly saddening to hear that this wonderful series was canceled. Even so, it's absolutely still worth a read despite ending far earlier than intended. The ... story remains strong from start to finish, and the creator didn't rush to end it like they had planned but rather maintained a natural feeling for the pacing in the final chapters. The early ending doesn't ruin the existing chapters at all. Now, it's just an enjoyable and thoughtful short read that anyone can enjoy.

A serviceable sports manga that emphasizes it's characters more so than showing us how interesting golf can be as a sport. This would be okay if the characters were in anyway interesting. Yaesaki's introduction and drive to learn the sport was compelling enough for me to keep reading past the first chapter even if he's a very basic protag. This goes for the rest of the cast as well. Most of their roles fall into the obvious manga/anime tropes and stereotypes. I think the story would be doing itself a favor if it started spending more time focusing on the sport of golf itself. Compared ... to something like Bluelock (one of the only other sports manga/anime I've experienced), which not only makes the sport look incredibly badass (and has a compelling cast to boot), it managed to make me give a shit about soccer (football), a sport I genuinely could not care less about in real life. I know it's golf we're talking about here, which by nature isn't as fast paced or ripe for action as something like soccer (football), but as someone who as a passing interest in the sport (I don't keep up with golf, but I am a HUGE fan of arcade golfing games like Mario Golf and Everybody's Golf) the potential to make it interesting is there. I know most of my complaints could easily be remedied as the series goes on (as of this writing we're only a couple chapters in), but as it stands, the introduction to Green Green Greens is incredibly generic and derivative. Here's hoping it get's better as it continues to develop. tl;dr - Make me care about the characters! Make golf look cool!
