Another one sacrificed to the axe god, and tbh I am not too shocked about this happening. I had it somewhere in my mind that this was happening anytime soon.
The story is that Tanaka has always been able to see bugs, bugs which act as parasites, feeding away on children's vitality by exploiting their emotions. He doesn't have it in him to do anything about it at first, but when he witnesses someone like him, one who can see bugs too, fighting them, it ignites a fire within him, to help people get rid of the bugs.
Now the manga kind of felt similar to Power
...
Rangers in vibe, and there came the first problem. This type of premise is already too explored upon to the point that people don't want to watch anything similar to it. People are bored to watch the same blueprint again and again. It won't work in the vanilla condition, now that blueprint needs something different to work with the audience. And it was just not there. It felt bland, always missing that hook to propel it to popularity. While this one does make its protagonist a middle-aged man, that alone was just not so strong of an adhesive to make it stick to the viewers.
Even if we just ignore all written above, it still was not that interesting of a shonen. The characters were just average at best. Main character was not that different from the usual average joe in a shonen except the fact that he was an adult. Other side characters either didn't have much presence in the story by the time the story ended or were just boring. The power system of the manga was just a battlesuit, which just eliminated any interest in them. Bugs feeding of on emotions weren't even that good of an idea of a monster to begin with, with the curses aspect being also boring. The stakes were also not too high by the time the story ended. This was just an average shounen to begin with. Art was decent and the manga even tried to introduce the main character's struggle as a parent, which did strike a chord but was not enough to compensate for all of the things which I discussed before. Also the story ended at the moment when we were exploring on Asato as a character, which made the actual main character get foreshadowed.
All in all, it took a little too much time for the manga to get in on the action.
