Both of the MC faced a tragic childhood in which led them being undoubtedly cold-hearted and almost inhuman. J possesses the beautiful face of Marilyn Monroe while Souma was treasured like a doll due to his ravishing looks. Also, I'd like to add that they have an interesting relationship with their father. To sum it up, Sakura-gari and J no Subete have very morbid BL undertones, in which I think worked so well in both of the stories. These stories will leave you such a powerful impact on the reader.

Parou's story is similar to J. They were both assaulted at a young age and that causes them to continuously get into abusive relationships as teenagers.

Both manga are about the troubled lives of LGBT teens struggling to deal with their traumas. Both are angst stories with a happy ending.

They are both by the same artist and both have the same dark and confrontational tone. -A.

this is quite a leap here. J no Subete is about the life of a boy named J who is potentially trans and enjoys dressing up like a woman. and of course, Rivers Edge is about Haruna surviving the underbelly of her small town. The similarities are not in the genre's, but in the intensity of the storytelling. They both have a distinct art style that i think certain readers will appreciate. In addition, there is a harshness to both stories that i personally seek out in manga and that these two tales provided for me! -A

If you like one, you should like the other. both have : - a dramatic story. - child abuses by his father (step father for zankoku) - despairs and sadness from the protagonist - we see the little abused child grown and become a beautiful tortured teenager. - Some scenes make you think "Well after all he worth that happiness" before it will be destroyed and make you feel so empathic with the protagonist. Obviously these two story are so alike and so awesome.
