//RULES OF SKY STRIKER///
Note: I will update this review in the upcoming years when i get the chance - for now this covers chapters 1 thru 7 but i will not spoil everything just what is new.
Today I take a look deep into Yu☆Gi☆Oh! OCG Stories delves into the origins of what is this about and how it came to made And it's mixedly-received base...And also discusses the role and consequences a show where it's main writer is known to be polarizing whom everyone hates, but also can be good. While i can't stand him i don't have to always defend him but understand that
...
he cannot be called good or bad, just polarizing.
Origin:
What is this manga about anyway? If anyone has been familiar with YGO before they know it well and how it's been evolving, despite it having a mixed reception fanbase who are not good people. But to make it clear i don't aways listen to the fandom when writing these reviews since most of the don't come to an understanding. Anyway, Yu-Gi-Oh, despite it being a card game anime, some of the cards in the show or the real-life game became revealed to have a lore on it's cards. The most best examples be the recent decks of the meta games. That's right. Yu-Gi-Oh has it's own story in it's card games not just promoting them.
A few examples:
- Buster Blader a story about a swordmans fighting the forces of evil and is called ''The Ultimate Dragon Killer''
-Albaz a story about a boy and girl going on an adventure after being exiled which takes places in the days in the past. Kinda like Rome or before modern time.
- Dragon Maid a story about Dragon Maids.Nuff said.
The First Arc:
The story which this manga started the gateway is mostly atm based around Sky Striker Ace. That is a control field deck in the Meta card game that debuted all the way back in Flames of Destruction (2018) which centors around a girl named Raye figrting the machines as the last human survior. Her abilty is pretty much a transformation girl who is pure shouen and carries the gofy troupes of most battle shounen do so, but she stands out not because she is the first YGO MC to be a girl, but is not a total mary sue or badly written. She is writen to be a tragic girl with zero happiness after her story kicks off right around the very first chapter where her life changes. A common thing with the show's theme going here.
Raye's gimmick is based of a Metal Gear Rising suit mix with Symphogear transformation. Who her story is about quick change to get rid of her foe just like in the real game.
Writer Controversy:
And i hate doing what i hate doing most. Explaining shit about a writer who i can't stand, but know he is good. Shin Yoshida. While I have condemed several times in the past, he is not anymore bad as i remember. How much did he change and did he really do good or bad? He was actually bad in original content when he became notorious as the poster child for Komoney's phase 2 era during the post 5D's era, but there was more stuff that no one explained at all and likes to keep themselves as gatekeeps and try to not get the full content or context. As I keep poiting out in the reviews. Yoshida keeps doing the same mistake in all of his post 5D's works. He doenn't know jackshit about what he or others know how to write characters in them. Making them either bad (Zexal) or insurable (Vrains). He did a lot wrong to the characters involved in those events. To the point the long lasted character assisanation and damaged repitation ruined their appeal the fandom causing them to divide non-stop when brought to arguments. And in real world it hard to sell any merchandise based off them because Konami knew what happen because it was their own fault for pushing these terrible shows. Yeah, I am not making that up. Konami knows why Yu-Gi-Oh post 5D's whent downhill. Zexal started a new ideas to make the MC a total moron, while Vrains was pretty much a 5D's 2.0 and both failed since what made the former (DM and 5D's) succesfull made the later terrible. GX and ARC-V are more bad because of their bad story telling and lack of developtment in them. Those in the middel are often hated because of the bad writers not giving their large cast crew developtment. So, what does this have to do with OCG Manga? Because he wrote two mangas of Zexal and ARC-V and both are either decent or good, but not terrible, mostly what IF.
The Story is good, but not a Masterpiece:
Yes, Yoshida for ONCE did not fuck up since his work here is more done the right way. He actually made the first arc be somewhat of a children's story and not some half-hazard whatever he thought whould work. This is where is 100% doing his best. He works on something that is not a compleate mistake. He tries to make it look like an origin with new material that wasn't in the original card games since after Raye's debut Konami slowely made new support with each card we got a glimpse of what is told in the cards. That's right. When her friend Sky Striker Ace - Rose debuted it told us more story as the it progress well. Yoshida pretty much used the cards to tell us a story the right way. Where in Zexal he told us jackshit and nothing in it was either memorable to good. That's why i aways call his wrting in Zexal either hacks or straight up stupid.
What else did he do to make this manga good?
Raye's story is pretty much told the way the card game told us.
It introduced new characters like Raye's Foster Mother Ciela.
It gaves new characters from the enemy's key point. They're called the Spectra Federation whom are lead by Zard.
It gives us two new sky Striker Aces named Camellia and Azalea named after flowers.
Final Virdect: Recommended.
