Overview:
Idea is a VR MMORPG game with special classes and class attributes; Lee Hyunsung who slaved away at an office job began his leveling journey in Idea after a special class was bestowed upon him. His fate is changed after this chance encounter and he changes the competitive landscape of Idea with his overpowered class skills.
Story & Character:
The story starts as your typical zero to hero story with similar tropes to other leveling manhwa where the main character gains unattainable cheat skills to help them progress faster and higher than any other around them which catches the attention of jealous pursuers. The story relies on
...
the game world's hidden storyline which is unlocked by completing a series of related side quests; At some point these side quests and opponents become repetitive and offer no extension of the world because of the self-sabotage from other jealous players. Don't expect too much when it comes to the plot development and consistency because any other additional stat point, level up, god class relic or skill becomes useless with Hyunsung's already overpowered skills.
Characters in this series are fairly well developed and maintained especially those NPC characters in relation to Hyunsung's class and quest. Eventually, Hyunsung will be closer to NPC characters than his fellow alliance members because of his constant state of being in and out of quest worlds or travelling between questlines completing missions. What I really hated about this series however was how it always mentioned details vaguely to keep its mystery - For example when Hyunsung hid his character from his sister for 50 chapters and every awkward encounter between them about the mystery persona would just delay the story. These instances can be seen several times even at the stage I'm at with this manhwa where they dodge the character/plans in question simply by: "I will never be stronger than 'him'." or "Has 'that' plan already been prepared?" This is very lazy development in both character and story that slows down the pacing unnecessarily.
Art:
The art is as expected of a modern day action Manhwa, the character design and action sequences are very well illustrated. At times the text pop up windows can be overwhelming because they have several paragraphs describing a single weapon or skill starting with the Lore of the item/skill followed by a large paragraph of the attributes and then the usage restrictions. This is also seen in the layout for quest pop up windows which make reading and interpreting the item very overwhelming, One way to fix this up would be Summarizing like listing attributes and restrictions concisely instead.
Overall & Enjoyment:
For a typical OPMC Manhwa this story was fairly unexpected; The premise of a sleeping class attribute is interesting and a good twist to other existing MMORPG style Manhwa. It did get repetitive with the class-related quests having Hyunsung and his loyal subjects run around the continent trying to obtain quest items just felt really dragged out especially when the fighting scenes between Hyusung and other enemies were always so uninspiring. Overall, not bad but definitely not a good series plot and character wise.
