Spoiler Warning(I would call it major but nothing in partcular happens in the story anyways so any spoiler is major):
Inside of "Umeko-chan wa Koishiteru"(Umeko-cain is in love) is a REALLY good manga, with really good art. The only issue is that the majority of it is just meh. It follows scary girl Umeko who is just well, a girl in love. The only problem is that her crush is terrified of her and convinced she's a ghost. This leads to some silly shenanigans as her friends who don't realize that he thinks she's a ghost try helplessly to set them up. The thing is
...
that there's so much damn clutter in the manga. It should've been 5 or 10 chapters and cut out unnecessary parts like the whole going to her friend's house bit. By chapter 10, I was already bored of the bit, and then they suddenly introduce girlfailure Andou, and do absofuckinglutely nothing with her in the broader context of the story. Aside from making it much shorter, they could've done the reveal much earlier in the story and did it like a love status quo where he learns to accept her and bonds wlith her in spite of his faers or some shit, which is hinted at in the ending. Instead, you have a boring and cliche first volume and then a 10/10 last 4 chapters making for a weird setup. where only about 7-9 chapters are any good in terms of plot.
The art is really good. The author did a great job at swapping between her as terrifying and her as a normal girl, and her as something in between. This manga would've done better with small amounts of color in her eyes, but a man can only dream. The chemistry of this manga is really cool, especially once Andou is introduced, everything picks up heavily in quality. There's a few characters which should've had more development but eh.
The pacing was actually suprisingly good for a romcom, it just shouldn't have ended where it ended.
Overall 5/10. Not terrible, but not great.
