This is a reincarnation/switched souls manwha set in a fantasy world. Our MC is a college student who dies in an accident and wakes up in the body of a Duke's daughter - and that daughter has been a horrible person throughout her life. Not only that, this daughter has also been picked as a potential for Empress. She must compete in trials against the main victim of her cruelty while dealing with her victim's lover, the Crown Prince.
While I originally rated this as a 7, I've changed it to 6 after thinking on it for a while.
The story was good, and I loved the
...
Enemies to Lovers plot point. I liked that the love-triangle aspects were nonexistent and were resolved quickly. The relationships all felt very authentic and that the author was an actual human who had human relationships. I felt it had really good pacing until *zee twist*. (More in depth below if you'd like to read it) In the end, I was just left disappointed by the ending and I can't get over how bad it was. Not only was the pacing off but the characters were, too.
It's a shame that it ended so "meh" because I really liked the story.
Spoilers ahead, but I'll still keep it pretty ambiguous.
After learning about the heinous crimes from his mother, the story just goes from 0 to 100. All of a sudden things start moving way, way, WAY too fast. Characters slip out of their personalities for the sake of catapulting the story, big plot elements are left unseen and simply glossed over, and the slow burn romance has now turned into a blazing wildfire of passion... all within 2-3 chapters. One of the most frustrating things for me was the death of a character who, until that point, was a loyal if not bitchy person. Her motives for doing what she did made no sense when she did them. If they had that plot earlier in the story? Sure. But not when it happened.
The Epilogue didn't help either. By this point I was already just glossing and scanning pages so I could mark it as complete, but the interactions felt very... fanfic-y. Lots and lots of sex, sexual innuendos, and raunchy things that felt out of place. Was just disappointing.
