Ah The Gamer or the quintessential Webtoon experience, a fresh and new idea that makes you excited a world full of mysteries and a good sense of progression. Only for it to meander more and more over time, the chapter length starts to diminish there's less and less actual content per chapter and more and more filler that stretches the story without adding anything. And one day after finishing a chapter you realize "Holy shit this is exactly the same story as the last arc".
There used to be a time where I was genuinely excited when a new chapter of this came out. I

I am honored to be able to leave a review for "The Gamer" after reading the very last chapter a few hours ago.
As many may know, this is one of the very first Manhwa's people were exposed too a long time ago. Manhwa's were a relatively new concept years ago, and "The Gamer" took the genre by storm. It set the example of having: long fully colored panels detailed speech bubbles drawings that span impressive lengths an ever-evolving story and so on ... Jun 10, 2022
Finally, MAL has added this manhwa to the database. This is one of the few webtoons along with the big 3 (ToG, Noblesse, GoH) that were very popular years ago. It had a significant fanbase, which gradually diminished because of the story not going anywhere to completion.
Story: 4/10 When this manhwa came out, the concept of the plot was unique and everybody was invested in the series. Eventually, new and better manhwa came out that outdid this, and a lot of people gave up on the manhwa. Even though I was a fan of this webtoon, and still, try to catch up once every 2 years, ... I'd say this manhwa was actually decent up to chapter 87, and there are almost 500 chapters right now. After that point, it shifts from the main character actually having to work hard and strategize to a really slow, bland, power fantasy where he just gets stronger with no effort to a RIDICULOUS degree. I'm pretty sure where I left off, he was literally a god creating a new sentient species of creatures to do his errands. Also, don't even think that any plot thread will have a satisfying conclusion or be explored with the exception of the over-arching plot from those first 87 chapters.

Much like amaanu01 from the other review, I, too, was one of the early birds in the webtoon scene with <The Gamer> being as popular as the big three <Tower of God>, <Noblesse> and <God of Highschool>, being some of the first manhwa I've picked up.
TG starts off with a very fresh story and an addicting plot that grows stale past 150 chapters or so, I'd say it's worth a read but after that point not so much. It gets repetitive and mundane very easily with no sense of plot or worldbuilding. It's quite a shame since I was very invested in this from ... Feb 27, 2024
First reader here, I lost interest around chapter 237 (season 4, episode 42). I really tried to read through it as, like others, I was one of the first readers along with Tower of God, Noblesse and God of Highschool (Also Girls of The Wild!). The nostalgia is the only reason I kept reading, but I really couldn't bring myself to do it anymore as the plot was non-existent, the MC is super lazy and it just wasn't The Gamer anymore. I might download the next 10 episodes to see if it gets good but my hopes are low. Surprised it's still going.

Do you like games, are you a "gamer," well this guy gets video game power in real life, gets introduced and thrown into a side of the world he did not know, and proceeds to use his "gamer knowledge" to just show off to "non gamers" how generic game mechanics work. Then somehow just any time convenient or for any trivial matter gets new powers.
The concepts of the story are interesting but quickly fall apart as you realize a lot of the story fails to build up to anything. If I were to explain this as a "gamer." It is as if you are playing ... |
