Synopsis

Googugu is a mysterious new app that can search for information, but unlike other popular search engines, Googugu can search through all information that exists on Earth, including confidential government documents and even people's journal entries. With great power comes great limitations though, as Googugu can only be used on a tiny device known as a "super smartphone."

First-year high school student Kyuu "Q" Sagurada happens to be an owner of one such device by chance. Though he is academically brilliant, Q strives to barely pass all of his courses by turning every test into a game, much to the ire of his childhood friend Yuika Noumaru. His behavior stems back to an incident seven years prior, when his younger brother, Shuu, disappeared without a trace. Despite the police's best efforts, they were never able to solve the case.

Realizing that his new smartphone has the potential to crack his younger brother's cold case, he attempts to search for it, only to see that any relevant information is locked. Now, Q must utilize the super smartphone more and collect "Googugu Points" in order to access the information. But as he continues to use the device, he realizes that he may not be the only super smartphone user out there, and the others could be manipulating the world as he knows it.

TLDR: Death Note 2.0 ?!?!!!, lots of potential, fairly interesting - keep an eye on it

Another review said "The protagonist feels like he was made specifically to rake in pseudo-intellectuals who unironically think they're smart but are just lazy." - sry for not citing u properly lazy lol, but damn this is accurate. I guess this is also an attack on my personality but as a "ego of a smart person yet lazy" I do feel intrigued by the plot and have hopes for the MC.

When Super Smartphone began I was interested, but not hooked. I only kept up for a month or two and then dropped it. The premise sounded cool, but wasn't used in a way that kept me reading weekly. On a fundamental level, I liked the plot. At times I even felt that the story had some nice suspense accumulating. Alongside the plot, our main character's motivations built satisfyingly through the series and I feel that with enough time Super Smartphone would have become a good manga, rather than just fine. I appreciate what the mangaka was going for but unfortunately it just falls short of average and is a miss for me.

Upon reading the first chapter I had mixed feelings because the first half was a slog to read. Once the phone was introduced, you could see a gigantic change in pace and creativity. We witness a great mini adventure as we see the mc working through a problem with deductive reasoning.
