This review is probably going to be long so here’s a TL;DR:
It’s just a boring manga, and when there is drama to make it interesting, it’s just outright stupid.
I son’t dislike this manga too much from all of its petty and stupid drama but for a rather simpler reason: The flow of events is just dumb. What I meant by this is the utilization of dumb flashbacks to give “character depth,” but it just makes the read more annoying than it should have been.
While on the topic of “deep and developed” characters, all of the characters (minus the mc) are brain-rottenly bad
...
— every single one of their thoughts and actions are a walking contradiction — initially, I thought some of their ridiculous actions could be justified via half-@ssed flashbacks, but it seems the author gave up halfway through for plot and drama reasons, making up further idiocy to have one of the fmc continue pursuing the mc.
As for the mc himself, at least he’s somewhat self-aware about how much of a scumbag he has been — he’s probably one of the only characters in this manga I don’t find or have a problem with, since he is somewhat well introduced and explored, going through a little bit of his emotions, no matter how stupid his actions later becomes.
I briefly touched on this manga’s plot, but I don’t think you get how bad it actually is. By the premise itself, the plot was already a train-wreck, but the addition of false convictions and developments of characters just to shoot themselves in the foot every chapter made this manga reach a new low.
Putting that aside, the plot is an absolute storytelling mess: Not only is it brimmed with contradictions and plot holes, but it was just done in such a roundabout and unnecessarily convoluted way that the story becomes so boring.
Let me ask you something: Do you remember every single time you read one of those manga moments where the author sets up a conversation between two characters to show they have good chemistry? Yeah? Ok. So, every time the author does this, there’s usually a small dialogue or two to reveal this with a classic “…” or time skip; now, imagine a story where the author does not do that and CONTINUES THE CONVERSATION ON AND ON FOR HALF OF THE MANGA CHAPTER’S LENGTH. Of course, all of this information is entirely useless and adds no depth to the characters as well as being done in the most info-dump manner way possible.
You’d think that after so many flashbacks and stagnant moments inserted into the plot line that the manga has some good and interesting characters, but besides for literally one, all of them are trash. While I’m at it, this manga is trash. Could I see myself liking this if I removed half of brain and read it on autopilot? Probably. Would I? Absolutely not.
You guys know this is just my opinion, right?
