Crybaby Next Door is a comic with a strong premise with a very disappointing execution.
Ochiai is an insecure divorcee, and the alleged subject of this comic is her growth into a more confident happy woman alongside our ML Sawatari, but while she does change, there is no actual growth on display. The changes in her character are almost never caused by anything we see in the comic, aside from the first few chapters where her expectations of how Sawatari will feel and react to her contrast with his actual feelings and reactions. I thought I’d leave a bit more of a positive review considering I enjoy the manga.
I’ll start off with the characters: I could be wrong but it seems the chapters are originally posted on Twitter and as for fun by author Zyugoya who just drew up the main character one day and decided to add a personality and story to her, I can see why people could have an issue with the design I guess but it’s not abnormal to have a larger chest so if you don’t like fanservice or breasts as big as Ochiai’s then I recommend you don’t read. TLDR: Drawings are cute which is fine for a romcom, premise is ok, execution is so so, I suggest to try the first 10 chapters to see if its to your liking.
Longer version: it starts a bit slow and part of the drama Is seeing how Female Lead overcomes her shyness and the scars of her past relationship with Male lead, its a romance after all. The good: art is okay, cutesy which is fine for a rom-com drama, expect ochiai's sillyness followed by either cute /sad reactions when her plans fall flat or succeed slowly inching to express her feelings while trying to ... |
