Romcoms… what do they all have in common? Well, they are all the exact same format spun in a different way each time, trying to pass it off as something different. Now, you might think I’m a romcom hater, but I’m a certified romcom lover, even the trashy ones, but this was just terrible from how basic and convenient the plot was.
As the plot of a trashy romcom goes, the mc is a “loser” and the fmc is incredibly beautiful; the manga, of course, follows the exact same plot points of the same-old formula and doesn’t do anything different, causing this manga to be
...
one boring mess.
The premise, where this manga is supposed to have an original twist, sort of sucks — the premise itself isn’t bad, but the introduction of the premise was god-awful. Blame it on my fatigued 12 a.m. brain or the awkward panel arrangement, I had to read each explanation at least three times, since nothing was ever introduced cleanly or smoothly. As such, the entire manga becomes one forced and convenient mess of a story, trying too hard ot be something that it isn’t.
Despite all of its flaws, I still read further and further, since romcoms have made the same mistakes in the past, and they get better… right? Nope. The characters are some of the messiest slop I’ve seen in a fat minute in a romcom. In theory, they shouldn’t be too bad, since they don’t have the most ambitious personalities; however, each character have been set up with some of the most braindead plot points and inconsistencies that the manga becomes headache inducing from trying to comprehend their “basic” personalities.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the mc is one of the most cringy mcs I’ve read in a while from the vast amount of trashy romcoms I’ve read.
Seriously: “Don’t get me wrong, I used to be cool and a stud, but I choose to be a loser.”
“God, I wish I was like her, she’s such an introvert, and I hate social interactions!”
“Despite a bombshell of a girl begging for me to marry her, I promised myself that 3-D women are trash!!! Never again!”
For the standards of a romcom, this is somehow worse despite not do anything terribly wrong or ambitious, and I feel obligated to congratulate the author in achieving such a feat. Congrats.
