5.6/10
I’ve never been so conflicted with a score until this review. I really liked the initial chapter since it made me nostalgic of the mc from another manga where the protagonist struggled to get girls to like him because of his ugliness. However, from there, it went down hill pretty quickly.
The concept is quite interesting, and the art is spectacular, but the execution was horrible. Everything about this seems rushed, botched, and made-up on the fly. The progress of the story is incoherent because of characters popping out of nowhere every chapter. Along with this, not much is explained about the world, how it got
...
into its state, etc. Zero explanations, zero logic, and zero pacing. I really did want to like it because of the crazy idea of using chess pieces as the mc’s superpower but besides from that, the story is sporadic, causing headache-inducing chapters.
This really could’ve been something great if the author slowed down the pace and firmly introduced + established a setting with purpose. However, the author did none of that, ultimately ruining any chances of enjoyability.
