I just put this book down and decided to log in immediately to write this review in hopes to get more interested in this story. I came across this novel looking for something different than the usual high school, daily life novels I've been reading and decided to give this a try. And, I'm so glad I did.

This novel follows Keisuke as he's been isekai'd into a world that's slowly being turned desolate and dying. After beginning his journey and questioning if he should even continue on going (TW: self harm / suicidal ideation in more than one part), he comes across Nito, a younger ... half-elf girl painting in a desolate train station. Finding that she's been journeying to find a beautiful place her mother once painted and dubbed "The Golden Sea," they join each other for an adventure.

What I found most beautiful about this story isn't just the journey they decide to take or the food that Kazamidori takes such long lengths to describe, but it's the people they meet along the way. The stories of loss, love, family, and finding yourself in a place that's desolate and learning to cope and move on when there's nothing left. I think the weight these encounters bring to the readers are what will keep this story on my mind for the next weeks to come. They're beautiful, heartbreaking, and inspiring. I mean, if everything around you turned to dust, what would you do?

The art in the novel is beautiful as well. Nito is the cutest character I've met in a story since Myuri in Wolf & Parchment and I look forward to seeing more really cute drawings of her being embarrassed or taking a big bite of Keisuke's cooking in the next volumes to come.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something new or for anyone looking for a story similar to To Your Eternity. I pray we get an anime for this as I can see it being a huge success.
