This is a quick story, mostly dealing with supernatural horror. It's entertaining but not necessarily a must-read.
Story, 6: Given its short length, there isn't much time for the plot to develop. beyond establishing the dangers of the sea.
Art, 7: There are some body disfigurements in the latter half of the chapter, and some really nice detail on the fishing nets.
Characters, 5: Every is fairly one note. This isn't necessarily bad, since the title is only a one-shot, but no one felt

I'll admit, I was a little unsure going into this. It didn't sound like my usual horror story - I like a good bit of gore, or some psychological that makes me wary when I go to do something that reminds me of the story - for instance, Junji Ito's Human Chair, which made me incredibly careful about what chairs I sit down in and will for a long time. This particular story seemed to be your usual strange occurrences happen at ... Oct 5, 2019

Demon's Voice is basically just 'another Junji Ito manga', it has not much more depth and nothing really special. The characters are one sided, which is usually not a problem with Junji Ito, but here it's really noticeable due to the lack of anything else. The horror element is scary, but nothing special, just basically zombies. It wasn't really exciting to read, I felt like I just brushed through it and forgot about it in few moments. 8/10 Pretty good for a one-shot story. It’s impressive how it delivers in such a short length. ’Demon Voices’ feels like story one would hear from someone at a bonfire when everyone is narrating scary stories that they’ve heard. It’s got all the elements for a traditional sailor’s scary tale too. It’s about an unexplained supernatural phenomenon that starts affecting the seamen and it’s written fairly well. The real winner here is the art style and atmosphere which make this one-shot into a memorable mood ... |
