From the creator of SKET Dance, we have yet another wild idea that JUMP occasionally accepts. It's already known that SKET Dance has been successful in it's run; especially it's comedy. Being awarded the 55th Shogakukan Manga Award for best shounen manga in 2009 is not an easy feat–making it stand alongside it's peers and alongside Gintama; being one of the best jack-of-all-trades anime serialized in JUMP. However, enough with SKET Dance.

Kenta Shinohara has risen back to his roots and released a promising manga in JUMP recently. Witch Watch is a wacky idea and starts off self-aware in it's randomness which is a small detail ...

I have not read SKET Dance, but after picking this manga up I definitely will read SKET Dance. I believe in the Shinohara magic.

This manga handles both wholesome comedy and action scenes in such a tasteful way I have not seen in any other manga. Usually the typical shounen got their comical characters that are funny and others react to them, then we move on into the "serious stuff" such as a tournament power ranking, yada yada. Shinohara does not subscribe to this format, because most of Witch Watch is rather slice-of-life and a comedy for stretches of dozens of chapters. But don't be caught ...

Witch Watch is a manga for a very specific audience. The characters are straightforward, the plot is inoffensive and the comedy has a distinctly Japanese feel to it.

The manga has an episodic structure, with comedy being the main driving force in most of the chapters. Sometimes the story shifts to a darker tone, but in the end everything return to the usual formula.

The art style is clean and very readable, the action scenes never felt confusing or hard to follow. Although character design could have been a bit more creative.

I recommend giving it a shot if you're in a mood for a ...

Very Enjoyable Manga to say the least. Ton of wholesome scenes and pretty great comedy all round. For anyone who's looking for a great and underrated slice of life rom com then this might be the manga for you

There is some essence to the story that is quite intriguing, but overall the series (so far) seems to prioritize the slice of life and comedic aspects of the manga more

For a romance manga however don't expect too much romantic scenes as there aren't much ( as of chapter 24) although romance is currently being built up.

It may not be one of the best newest Shonen Jump ...

Kenta Shinohara is at the height of his powers.

Following his previous works SKET Dance and Kanata no Astra, Witch Watch is a burst of pop and comedic genius that delivers with every single chapter. The series is about a novice witch learning to master her magic while being protected from the threat of an ominous prophecy by her close friends, each of whom is a mythical familiar.

This premise allows for the series to take whatever direction it wants at any time, and Shinohara is able to balance and pace the series beautifully. Sometimes it's hilarious single-chapter anecdotes resulting from the chaotic misuse of magic. Other ...

this manga deserves more lights. I know Shinohara from SKET Dance and also about him being Sorachi's ex assistant. and I love how he inherit 'Gintama-ish' comedy yet still has his own flavor in it.

SO, the story premise actually sounds very basic; Nico, a 'talented' witch, need to train her spells in society. But she needs a familiar to accompany her, and she chose Moi, her half ogre childhood friend that happened to be her love interest, to protect her along the training phase. the story goes how her spells tend to give 'comical-effect' and brings Moi lots of trouble. Classic Rom-com of shounen ...

I did not expect this story. At first I thought it was a story about magical girls fighting evil, but in fact it seemed more like a comedy manga. Like Doraemon, it depicts the characters' daily lives in a very unique way. All the characters have lovable personalities, and there is no one character that you will dislike. It is the same for the villains. It makes you want to live with them, to see what will happen tomorrow. But I'm sure the ultimate goal is to defeat the villains. It's going to be a long road to get there, but that's what makes it ...

This review was written with 15 chapters released so far:

Witch Watch is a cute Romcom with supernatural elements. The Ogre Morihito is tasked to watch over his childhood friend Nico, a witch. That's the titular witch watch - he's basically her babysitter.

Nico, while being a cute, well meaning girl is a lot of trouble. All of her magic doesn't go the way she wants it to, it often backfires. Morihito, nicknamed "Moi" by her, spends most of his time to clean up the mess she causes.

Morihito is the typical loner type - because he is strong as an ogre he hurt people as a ...

Witch Watch has been very intesting so far, and it has been a series that I routinely read every Sunday. I was a huge fan of Sket Dance several years back, and I loved Astra in Space, so reading this was a no brainer.

So far the plot has been rather thin, and there hasn’t been much that has happened with the characters. But I do have confidence that the the author will attack much more serious plot lines sooner or later. There is a heavy usage of comedy in the plot, and some of the chapters can be hit or miss, but many of ...

I don't peoples rates on myanimelist at all...
This manga is the funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life. It makes me cry lauthing each volume without a miss.

The story and main plot is interesting while you get daily situations with comedy and magic involve. All the characters are well presented with self development.
The art is great in each situations no matter what: fluffy scenes, fights etc.

I cannot recommend this manga enough. It has become since volume 1 one of my favourites. Give it a try if you wanna have a fun time with no much plot complications or drama.

Witch Watch blends slice-of-life gag comedy with romance and an overarching shonen action plot. It has many moving parts that give me hope it will get me hooked. However, while I can certainly recommend Witch Watch, it unfortunately has been too inconsistent for me to say it is great.

Witch Watch is at times creative, fun, and experimental. For instance, a few early chapters frame a character’s inner monologue as a reality show interview. In another chapter, the characters find themselves in a death game that is so poorly designed, they (the ones captured and forced into said death game) re-structure the game from scratch only ...
