K-ON is one of the most polarizing series in existence. On one hand you have people who are vigilantly against the series and anything else with a similar cute or "moe" style, and on the other hand you have probably one of the most dedicated otaku fanbases, spending thousands upon thousands of yen on merchandise, CDs, and so on. It's impossible to deny how much of a presence K-ON has had in Japan since the first season of the anime aired.

What you have here is a fairly typical 4-koma manga about a group of high school girls in a music club and all the resulting ...

As of the 2 volumes I have read, K-ON! has been very enjoyable, but it is not without flaws. The art is, much like the show, beautiful; the characters and environments really pop out. Nevertheless, it suffers from a mediocre story and boring story arcs. This does not make it unreadable, though. Long story short, if you want more K-ON!, read this.

A gaggle of high school girls sitting around eating cake and drinking tea sounds like the world's most unbearably dull thing ever, and it probably is, but going through the motions of daily life isn't half bad, but just watching it is pointless none the less to those who want more.

STORY: ...I'm honestly at a loss here, how does one grade a story, when there isn't a story at all. K-ON! is just that, no story, no conflict, no evil organizations to defeat, no romance, nothing. I challenge anyone to think of a better phrase to describe K-ON! than, "Pure sweet pointlessness."

I enjoy K-On! a lot and it's been hard to find something to replace it with now that I've finished most of it.

Honestly between the manga and the anime, if I had to choose, I would pick the anime. You aren't going to miss out on anything if you decide to skip the manga in favor of the show, because the anime adds more depth to the characters and a ton of anime original content that can't be seen in the manga.

Who I do recommend this to is someone that has been through the K-On! series and wants to see more of their favorite characters ...

Preliminary (21/57 chp)
I'm really disappointed .
As a huge fan of the anime , I came looking for More in the manga only to be let down .
I've watched the anime series at least 4 or 5 times and cannot help comparing .

Characters 3*
Shallowness is key , maybe it gets better . Yui and Ritsu are nearly indistinguishable . My fave Mio has nearly no expression . That fact alone is pretty much death for this manga to me .

Art 2*
(cover art doesn't count)
K-On has been described as "cut girls doing cute things" . Sadly , this is a big failure here . Marginally better than stick ...

Frankly K-On (and slice of life in general) is simply not a genre I'm interested in.

Yes the girls are cute, yeah their adventures are light hearted and adorable. But I can look up pictures of cute anime girls online for free. Why do I need to spend money on a four issue manga series to do that?

Frankly, there is absolutely nothing special about K-On. No interesting characters, no unique setting, nothing at all.

If I must say something nice I kinda enjoyed some of the musical knowledge that was displayed throughout, and some of the interactions did get a chuckle out of me and for what ...
