Recommendations

Both are coming of age stories where the protagonists undergo tragedy throughout their respective stories.

They share a similar surreal kind of art style which contrasts really well with the themes they cover such as family problems including unfit parenting/inappropriate family relationships, societies unjust view of homosexuals, the consequences of emotional abuse which leads to emotionally stunted individuals and society in general with it's obsession of beauty and status along with appearances in the public eye.

While Oyasumi Punpun is more of a coming-of-age story and Not Simple is more about the tragic tale about a young man, they are equally dark and both series' main characters have a pretty dark and troubled life.

Both are short manga by Natsume Ono, focusing on main characters that have had a rough childhood and/or absent parents. Both have some romantic and coming of age elements, as well as similar bittersweet moments. The art is also similar. The main difference is that Not Simple is a bit more depressing, while Ristorante Paradiso has some uplifting moments.

Both are short, beautiful, emotional, and depressing manga which create similar atmospheres and convey similar feelings to the reader. Both have main characters who come from dysfunctional families and end up in difficult situations.

not simple has the same art style as La Quinta Camera, Natsume Ono's earlier style (some may recall Ono's Ristorante Paradiso and House of Five leaves, where the style appears to be more developed) The pacing of the story is similar, and both mangas give an introspective look at the lives of a group of people. If you enjoyed La Quinta, not simple will most likely be a good read too (not simple is even more compelling than La Quinta in my belief)

Incredibly depressing, tragic and beautiful. Worth reading over and over.

Stories about separated siblings, unfit parents, complicated family situations, and sometimes reconciliation.

Ono Natsume tells us a story using atmosphere and art instead of lots of text.

Tragic stories told in a non-linear manner. They are both very emotional.
