Coming-of-age stories told in very particular ways, annoying (but godly-written) characters and a lot of dark humor.

Both are dark intriguing short manga, that depict the cruelty and harshness of people and society. Kami no Kodomo does this via illustrating the life of an apathetic psychopath and his view of the world. While Mikai no Hoshi does this by showing how extremely cruel and selfish society is as a whole.

While Arigatou is a story about a family on the verge of collapse in Japan, Mikai no Hoshi setting is an uncivilized planet during wartime. The settings might be drastically different but they both depict pretty brutal relationships and graphic sexual scenes. Mikai no Hoshi's are more violent and mostly rape though. Basically, while reading any of these you step into dystopian worlds of pain where you just want the protagonists to endure their hardships and be happy while at the same time suffer from their stupid decisions. The other important similarity is how these manga also have positive messages despite all the suffering.

Usamaru Furuya and Matsumoto Jiro have a knack for exploring the themes of despair, violence, sex, salvation and war in a very gritty way. The story of "The little man vs the power" have never been told uglier than in these two works.

The two series feature torture scenes and broken relationships often as an attempt to create psychological frames of reference.

It's the work of the same author, Matsumoto Jiro, and though it has a completely different plot, the mood and picturing technique is same fascinating. And of course the scenes of erotica. Some of them are really hard to digest. The same time, that is what creates charm of this series and makes it unfogettable.

on a far away planet strange things happened. then a one more strange thing happened. and another one in a next instant. and after a while everything seems to be engulfed in madness and fear. Space Ship is quite a twisted story which is hard to bear any similarity with other mangas, though you can find it, if you try hard enough. and this similarity can be found among those ridiculous stories which draws in his mind a main hero of Uncivilized Planet. filled with action, death, sex, insanity in quick pace those creations storm through your mind leaving only questions and a desire to reread  read more
