-Both arts are very recognizable and sometimes too grotesque (A very uncommon thing in this medium). -Both series manages the dilemma of fighting or running away from real life adversities. -Both main characters has some particular similarities: *Are middle aged overweighted guys. *Have a criminal looking friend and a goofy looking one. *Are desperate about their loser lifes.

Both series portray a fairly cynical and pessimistic view of characters trying to escape reality by denying their true selves and how it influences the way they interact with others and the world around them, as well as the detrimental influence the protagonists' obsessions have on them.

The overall themes and the general aesthetic of both series are very similar; particularly in regard to NEETs and otaku life.

Both have "disgusting" aspects to them but also have very enjoyable points to them. Arigatou is actually well written compare to ressentiment

These two works feature an obese and clumsy (and sweating) protagonist with low self esteem, who’s becoming someone else to escape from himself. Both are wacky comedies with a serious undertone that’s got more to it than you are led to believe initially.

These two titles follow a relationship between a normal male protagonist and a virtual female protagonist (though the female protagonist in Minimum has materialised in real life). Both titles constantly refer to a computer game which the male protagonist is interacting or has interacted with. Do note however that although the two titles are ecchi, they both have different aesthetics.

Both these serialisations follow the development of a romantic relationship between a male human being and an engineered female being. In Ai-Ren, the female being is akin to a robot partner; whereas in Ressentiment, the female being is a computer generated character.

Although the two series are highly different from each other, they both provide a conceptual view of possible virtual worlds.

Apparently, if you're a 30-something basement dweller still living with your parents, there's still some vagina out there, just waiting for you. And we're not talking about the loose, overly used variety here: we're talking about the kind you should by rights only be able to touch after paying lots of money beforehand. Oku of Gantz fame/infamy's take on the hikikomori phenomenon was always going to have at least one sex scene with a boob-boobed, far too kind to be real woman. Not even the reclusive lead kissing a puppy was surprising after Butter Dog. But Ressentiment giving hope to every fatty in need of love  read more

Both involve romance between a loser protagonist and a "girl" who's really more of an A.I. Chobits plays the romance angle harder while Ressentiment is a really cynical and messy version of similar themes, but they make an interesting comparison and each can be compelling if you want a different portrayal of the same theme.
