Is Gantz:E the same as the original? Well yes but actually no.

This story takes place in the feudal era of Japan wich is a very interesting setting for the sci-fi genre of Gantz. This really works in favor of the story, it gives it a fresh feeling so it doesnt feel like a bad rip off from the original manga.

The artwork for the manga is very sharp and clean, some panels made me pause just to look at the amazing artwork. It has the same feel as the original work but the feudal aesthetic mixed with high tech really makes it stand out.

The characters are ... lacking in this story, the MC looks like a taller version of Kei Kurono but stronger and more confident in his skills and power. This will take away a lot of character development for the MC wich made Kei in gantz so well written. We can predict what kind of hardships he is going to have to go through so maybe there will be some ways to improve in that section. The side characters are actually really enjoyable and feel different.

If you liked Gantz i highly suggest you read this. It's a fun read and after 14 chapters i'm already invested in this story

The large success of Gantz comes from the mystery and its evolving characters. While many of the characters were first annoying and hard to watch onscreen, Gantz had that element of mystery in what the Gantz was, and the motivations of 100 points that made you continue. Gantz:G was a carbon copy of the Original, even the missions seeming the same. So when it came down to it, people were hardly interested, as there was nothing to watch it for, the setting and characters not having a change. So learning from his mistakes, Oku Hiroya created Gantz:E which has kept my attention and interest in ... the relatively short 14 chapters.

Taking place in what seems is feudal era Japan, Gantz:E sets up a completely different dynamic than the original. While still alive, the author sets up the two protagonists to be rivals, after MC A’s crush in the rice fields fell in love with the MC B. After they both drown in an attempt to save her from a flood, they arrive in the Gantz room where various others have died, only one girl wearing the battle suit. Like in Gantz she explains what has happened to them and they are teleported into a mission with the two main characters wielding swords and the armour, character development between the two heavily hinted at.

One great thing about this route, is that it feels perfect in the setting. While they have currently only been on one mission(And still in one mission) it feels very rooted in japanese history, each Alien some sort of reference to them. With multiple Samurai, Japanese yokai of the time, and outfits of that time, it is clear that the author actually planned some things out, leading to what could be a nicely handled Gantz without plot holes. The fights are also amazing, not relying on the guns. While the delayed guns did bring some tension, it became old in Gantz:G, and didn’t feel like it fit the setting, and was repetative. However, in Gantz E they mostly only use swords, creating different, and fights that fit the setting perfectly. Each small thing that is added fits the setting and makes it out to be different from the original.

Overall it is only in its 14th chapter so far, and with the short chapters it usually contains, it is around 6-7 real chapters compared to other manga. Unlike Gantz G which was mediocre, and felt repetitive, this never had me bored, intrigued in the new setting. While It can’t top off Gantz(the mystery elements now gone) I can see it becoming a better handled Gantz G, a small spin off it you are wanting more Gantz in your life.

As a fans, i don't mind if author milking this franchise. I even enjoy Gantz G but not this manga.

First it's setting to shogunate era contradict with event of Gantz origin which is originate from sick young girl German aristocrat who got vision to create mathematical advance to build Gantz.

Another thing it's contradict which is there's no time travel or alternate universe from original series. So who build those tech for them? It's breaking the lore of Gantz itself

What I imagine is they should use low tech technology to fight against those alien (Japanese youkai)

Second, the story itself is rushed. In original Gantz, it takes ... 15 chapter just to kill onion alien but Gantz E straight to boss fight which destroy character growth for side characters

The art is amazing but the pacing has to be the worst in any manga I’ve ever read. Plot is almost nonexistent and it is frustrating how slowly, what little of a story Gantz E has, progresses; even after waiting many months between chapters and reading them all at once like I’ve been doing. Still, it’s good for Gantz fans who are fine with little more than eye-candy. I can’t call it a serious manga but more of a treat. I wish very much that there was more characterization and I hope that it ends soon instead of lingering as a zombie manga where almost ... nothing new occurs after months.
