Pierre de Fermat was a French mathematician who discovered principles of analytic geometry. He is known nowadays because of a remarkably difficult theorem that he gave as a challenge to all mathematicians. It was solved only recently, 350 years later! By Andrew Wiles.
Story. 8/10
So what does that have to do with our manga? Fermat’s cuisine is a manga centered around Gaku Kitada, a mathematical prodigy, studying at a famous school. Gaku has always been in love with maths, but recently he’s hit a wall. He feels he can’t carry on.
And at this moment he meets a mysterious young chef who praises Gaku’s cooking.
...
Gaku is precise with food, as he is with his equations. When he eats a special dish, his mind starts to calculate backwards, ie. solve how the dish was made. And then he recreates with, with a special touch. He applies maths to improve his cooking!
I loved Nobunaga no chef(about cooking], and also Ao ashi(by the same mangaka), so I had big expectations. And this manga is meeting those expectations. So far only 4chapters are available to read online, but they are really interesting. I’ll wait for more.
Art. 8/10
The food is shown in a very appealing manner, appetising to say the least. The thinking that goes behind cooking is also shown well. Like the football tactics in Ao Ashi, the mangaka has done his research deeply in the chef world, in order to make this manga as realistic as possible.
Characters. 7/10
It is too soon to say much. The protagonist is a sensible and smart guy. That is always a big plus. He makes good decisions. Even if he can get wimpy at times, he pulls himself up when it matters the most. Kinda like the MC of Ao Ashi, Be blues, Blue Period.
So far other characters seem good too.
Overall. 8/10
I really enjoyed reading this manga so far, and would like to read more. You’ll enjoy this if you like cooking manga, thinking manga, or manga with a motivated lead character who wants to change his life.
This is also pretty realistic. No superpowers, no murder mysteries. Just cooking, having fun.
