This manga's anime adaption was coming next season so I decided to give it a read.
The story is pretty simple as it is your usual good old isekai story where the mc gets reincarnated into a new world. While being a pastry chef in his previous life he now gets reincarnated as a poor noble's son and decides to make a land of sweets.
Cons:-
1) Misleading title: While by reading the title it looks like it is a gourmet manga, but trust me it is not. Nearly 30 chapters in and you barely see any cooking. The only cooking you see are of making some pie
...
and candies. And they too are not explained. In a cooking manga you expect the manga to let you experience the world of cooking, indulge in its the process and lastly savor your eyes on the end products while all that in an easy to understand manner. But this manga fails to do so. Cooking is more of a subplot just to rake in more readers.
2) Tropes/Clichés: As in most of the isekai manga, this clichés continues here too. First is the Overpowered MC trope. He somehow gets an incredible rare skill not possessed by anyone. But the MC is not overpowered in the sense of fighting ability but in brain power. He was a mere pastry chef in the previous world but after reincarnating in this world he becomes oh so intellectual, participating in the politics of royalty, coming up with shrewd schemes out of nowhere, etc.
Another cliché is the Nobility's son's cliché as to how he conveniently gets reincarnated as a son of a nobility.
3) Art: This depicts the perfect example of "your run-of-the-mill" isekai art. Not too good, not too bad, it is just average but gets across what is tried to be showed. I personally do not like the childish type of art style used in these types of Isekai manga but at the end of the day it is just my choice.
Pros:-
1) Plot: While this is not a gourmet manga but if you are looking an isekai for a casual reading then you can definitely pick this up. Have a decent plot with good scenarios. That Royalty politics is fine too if not good. It is interesting to see the shrewd schemes to play in effect. It has that simple story vibe which I like.
2) Characters: This part of the anime was the one which I liked the most as most of the characters have some purpose to serve instead of being in the backdrop to mention how powerful the mc is every five minutes. Their interaction and conversations with the Mc was decent too and their involvement in the story was plenty.
3) Avoidance of some major tropes/clichés: While the story has tropes in it, it too has avoided some major tropes. The first one is that they avoided inserting a Harem trope. I was worried the whole time while reading the manga that they suddenly does not introduce a love interest thus starting the building of Harem. But fortunately the author didn't opt for the trope and instead gave him a fiancé at the early stages of manga thus calming my worry.
Another one being the overly loving family or particularly overly loving sister. Nearly every royalty isekai manga has a sister which heavily dotes on you making it look more like an obsession than siblings love which feels unsettling at times. Thankfully this author gave him a normal sister.
Enjoyment:
I personally liked this manga. While it had not me hooked enough to read it in one sitting but I was not too much bored too, had some wholesome moments too, So what do we need more?
