For a tagline like "Knight Girl x Princess Boy" I expected a lot more gender nonconformity, but both the male and female leads stay rigidly in the usual standards of masculinity and femininity. The boy is far more 'prince' than princess, and the girl is still plenty feminine and not all that different from most shoujo heroines...though she at least somewhat holds up to her marketing by also being a proficient martial artist, with plenty of panels of her kicking stuff and grabbing men in judo throws.
So while there's not as much gender role subversion as I was hoping for, I don't have many complaints.
...
It's a solid, basic shoujo, so if you like wholesome romance stories this will be a fine read. There's nothing too memorable or noteworthy (except for the cool moments where the main character shows off her combat prowess), but there's also nothing negative to pick out either. The main romance has a foundation of mutual respect, none of the characters felt too annoying, and it was a simple but enjoyable light read.
I feel like the only trouble spots for me were seeing the main character in a swimsuit and the author gave her literally no muscle, despite her main character feature being her strength...it all came back to the mangaka setting up this expectation for divergency from generic shoujo and being a bit too cowardly to deliver, and it shows. But if you're not expecting anything different and open this wanting the usual shoujo comfort food, this might be a good read.
