Mangaby Forwards

Quality manga with good stories which include characters that are transgender, crossdressers, body swapped, LGBT, etc.

Most manga have complex characters with substance to the stories.
Wrote a sentence for each manga that lightly describes what each one is about.

(not just manga but I don't want to bog down the title)

some of them are BL or yuri. some of them just have random gay side characters. sometimes. the random side character is trans. if you are insane like me, you will read the whole thing just for that one queer character.

My collection of fluffy-sugary-sweet-wholesome-cute-whateveryoucallit manga and novels that made me incredibly happy when I read them.
Also some stories have alternate versions, but I'm just putting here the version I read.

I'll only add stories when I finish them or reach the end of their English translations.
I'll happily take suggestions on what to read/add, so message me if you want!

Descriptions:
1) Brief and barebones synopsis (hopefully easier to understand than the original synopsis).
2) How sweet of a story I think it is out of 10 (this isn't my personal score!).

For all my bitches and bros and non-binary hoes. 🏳️‍⚧️

Focus here is on manga where either a main character is trans or a significant story arc focuses on trans characters and issues of trans identity. Otoko no ko and crossdressing series will be ignored unless there are explicit trans messaging in there. Likewise, gender-bending series that approach sex change on supernatural terms (Boku Girl) or through sci-fi mechanics (11-nin iru!) will likely be ignored unless there's some sort of grounding element that makes queer identity explicit. Finally, any series that's just like, blatantly transphobic (F. Compo) will be ignored. Some wording will be vague to avoid spoilers.

In order:
- Claudine! (1978) - Transman protagonist
- Stop! Hibari-kun (1981) - Transwoman love interest/deuteragonist
- Paros no Ken (1986) - Transman protagonist
- Double House (1998) - Transwoman protagonist
- Hourou Musuko (2002) - Everyone's trans
- Boku wa, Onnanoko (2003) - Transwoman protagonist in titular story
- Homunculus (2003) - Important transwoman character
- IS - Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei (2004) - Trans and intersex protagonists
- J no Subete (2004) - Transwoman protagonist
- Ai no Shintairiku (2004) - Transwoman protagonist
- Densen Complex (2006) - Transwoman love interest/deuteragonist in Love Horizon
- Mascara Blues (2007) - Transwoman protagonist in "So I Can Be Myself - A Long Dream"
- Yuureitou (2010) - Transman protagonist
- Smells Like Green Spirit (2011) - Transwomen protagonists

Happy Pride Month!

These are some series that I have read/am reading. That are either centred around LGBT+ stories or has significant LGBT+ characters.

I did include Nagata Kabi's other works I haven't finished, just because I really enjoy her work and I'm planning on reading them soon anyway lel

I also do plan to add to this list as I read more manga :)

Mangaby bufi_

Manga involving different sexualities and gender identities, aside from heterosexual, lesbian, gay & cisgender.

Important mention: I am only including manga that focus on the sexuality/gender of the queer characters (at least quite a bit) or their journey to discovering themselves. So just having a queer character in a manga is not enough.

If you're looking for short reviews for each one, I do have a post on my blog discussing them. Unfortunately, I can't provide a link here, but you can find one on my profile.

Finished manga with less than 50 chapters.
To be specific, these manga have less thank fifty but more than ten chapters. For manga with 50–100 check out my under one-hundred stack! I also have one for under 10 chapters!
The only other criteria is that I didn’t include any manga I didn’t enjoy!

🔹Queer person here, with the intention of creating a list of manga on the topic, including about the manga in general as a piece of media and art, how it handled the characters being LGBTQ+, how much does it lean on the most overused or distasteful tropes.

🔹I basically just want to make it a bit easier to find them and know what kind of quality to expect.

🔹Disclaimers/Notices:

⏳ I actually need to reread some of those since I've read them a long time ago, but in those I'll be leaving a note on the description so it's known.

🏳️‍🌈 And also I'm just one person, of course different LGBTQ+ people will disagree with somethings I say here.
Feel free to respectfully correct me via message.
For characters not explicitly labeled on the source material, I either left it vague or used the closest label I know of when talking about it.

⚠️ Some works have some triggering topics, but, as a general warning, a big chunk of those deal with some kind of bigotry and the main characters having to deal with it.

🔹 More heavily problematic titles, will be placed more towards the end of the list so it's easier to avoid.

A list of some manga and one-shots that focus on one's gender identity

As a disclaimer, it's important to understand that unfortunately, there are very few manga that actually comment on gender identity issues, and sadly, the manga that try to tackle these topics are not the greatest in terms of quality.

The manga are listed from best to worst, in my perspective, with Hanayome wa Motodanshi being the "line" at which I'd actually recommend the manga. I have also included my review of how well I felt the story and topics were handled as well as potential triggers as a warning.

Also, note that some series that I included are disconnected anthology manga that I have not read in their entirety.
Extra note, I would love to add more but after 18 different entries I'm all gendered out.

Non-Mal comics/manga:

Sakura-Chan to Amane-Kun| by Asazuki Norito |7|
(Very short read that seems to be discontinued? I'm not sure about the status of the manga, but what's there is really good and enjoyable. It's just sad that it's unfinished.)

Is It Strange To Feel Dysphoric After Coming Back From An Isekai?!| by squipkechi |7|
(Pretty short and not very deep, but was a very pleasant read)

The Story of a Girl Who Likes Girls, and a Girl Who Used to be a Guy| by Masada Yuu |7|
(Extremely short and not deep at all, but I still found it to be very cute)
