This manga makes me feel desperate, not the screaming and shouting kind of desperate but the empty and lethargic kind, and a few panels later it makes me feel all cozy and warm inside...


If i had to describe this manga as succinctly as possible, i'd say "Harry Potter but all female, lesbian as can be, war times, and a very weird mix of wholesome, cute, dark and heavy emotions and moods", and I say Harry Potter referring to the soft magic systems being basically identical, HP's is more explored whereas FLUYD's is only developed when necessary which is a very good thing, and that brings ... me to another really important part of this manga:

It's a manga largely about war, but not in your typical action and combat kinda way for it has almost no action scenes, if you are looking for a manga with those aspects this is not it, instead it chooses too depict the often unseen and unmentioned side of war: the people that are left behind, the people that have to deal with not knowing if the people they love and cherish will return to them ever again, this is honestly greatly refreshing for me for i am a sucker for a dark and heavy story, and i do mean heavy.
There are some aspects to this story that i do not wish to spoil for it would ruin a very interesting surprise, all i am gonna say is that surprises in this manga are not usually good, matter of fact they are usually very fucked up and disturbing in ALOT of ways, summarizing this whole segment:
-War, but the emotional and mentally fucked up side of it;
-Incredibly disturbing situations and scenarios that some characters are put in/have to deal with.
If you like those things or wanna know if you do like them, then this manga might be for you.

Now that we got the dark and depressing out of the way, time to talk about the cute and wholesome, remember when i said lesbian? Well it is, but not in your typical yuri kinda way, for a story that includes girls in love with each other, living together, there is no fan service at all (depending on what your definition of it is, for me there is none at all), it's more of a emotional and genuine kinda love, focusing instead on the genuine connections these people have and how they feel for each other.
However, this love is not depicted in a vacum like with a large part of other romance manga/anime i've seen, it's a romance that I would call "in context", almost as if the love wasn't written in by an author and was instead a product of two peoples interactions, another way to think about it is the connections and/or relationships present in this manga feel almost alive in a weird way, as if the author them self was in these characters positions and were writing them in first person...
After all that praise it's almost redundant to say that when the cuddly scenes or otherwise cute and wholesome moments hit, booooy do they hit, adorable as a word does not even begin to do it justice, but again, that is my personal experience with the manga, and it was the same the second time i read through it, and again, summarizing this whole segment:
-Very gay, very wholesome and cute;
-Genuine connections that feel as tho real people are being written in.

And those are the two main aspects of the manga, the emotional side of war and relationships alike, and an honestly genuinely refreshing use for a magic system, not as the main focus or even as a lazy "plot device" of sorts to insert ridiculous stakes, but a backdrop for an actual human feeling story that transmits all sorts of powerful emotions from positive to negative, so if you like crying and smiling through the tears mere minutes after, this manga is for you.

For anyone who is looking to read this manga, I suggest reading Catch-22 and Never Let Me Go first. They are award winning novels. Both books contain themes present in Kimishinu. With Catch22 being more about the war, and Never let me go being about the orphanage romance. If you don't feel like reading both, read Never Let Me Go. Its plot is very similar. It will make you feel things.

Beyond that, My Wish is to Fall in Love Until your Dying Day is what I would consider a masterpiece. It perfectly balances its core themes, and intertwines them in a way that the ... story would not function with the absence of one of them. The story follows two young girls, Sheena and Mimi. Sheena and Mimi work well together as character types. Sheena is mostly easily described as Mimi's caretaker, while still maintaining an equal relationship. Mimi is inexperienced, despite her situation. They go to school together, and sleep in the same room. They prove that even in a world filled with pain, love can still blossom.

Anyways, the art style fits perfectly. Solid 10/10. It remains simple, yet somehow perfectly encapsulates every little detail.

The characters are amazing. They experience great character development. With it being a character driven story, I could not rate it any lower than 10/10.

The pacing is good as well. There is no clear time structure, many days could be skipped over, simply because they were the same as the previous. The book focuses on the interesting stuff, there is never a dull moment. Any that you might consider dull, is just unappreciated character development. That or you just don't like the character.

The story is what I might call, peak. If you go in expecting something grand, don't. The story is about children. Do you think they will change the world?

You should try reading again a while after your first reading. You will notice a lot more minutiae details. Some moments hit twice as hard when you know the true meaning.



Super side note. The reason I recommended Never Let Me Go is because I went through the experience myself. Initially I rated this series like an 8/10. But now I realize it's potential. I read Never Let Me Go in an English class, so I was required to analyze and find the themes. Since re-reading Kimishinu, I understood so much more, and realized it's depth.

There are a lot of moments that feel bland, simply because of one thing. You are watching the story happen, not experiencing it. It's the same way you cannot read another person's mind. Never Let Me Go gave me insight into that. It helped me truly understand what the characters were going through, what they were thinking, and how they felt.

I’m genuinely surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed this series so far! I’ll be honest: I don’t like yuri. I never have, and I’ve actively avoided the genre for years. But after watching the pilot film for the upcoming anime adaptation of this series, something about it stuck with me. The yuri premise turned me off initially, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The animation was striking, the mood was raw, and the concept was really haunting. After a month of it lingering in the back of my mind, I finally gave in, picked up the manga... and ended up binging it in just ... a couple days.

The premise of the story is what captivated me the most: in a country consumed by a seemingly endless war, unwanted children (orphans, street kids, societal outcasts) are raised in military schools to become weapons of war--child soldiers. Isolated from the outside world, they grow up knowing nothing but war and each other. It at a school that supposedly enrolls both boys and girls, though whether that’s due to gender segregation or something else entirely, I'm pretty sure we've yet to even see an actual male character (or maybe I just missed it). Either way, the setup is horrifying, and immediately compelling.

It’s not just about child soldiers either. It’s about what happens when those child soldiers become teenagers—desperate for connection, for romance, for anything real before they’re sent off to die. The emotional hook is brutal: these relationships might be their only taste of intimacy before they’re killed.

And in the beginning? It works! The first 15 chapters are intense, tender, and horrifying. The intimate moments are charming and sweet and have great levity. You see the war machine turning in the background, the toll it takes on the girls, the way love blooms not despite the setting—but because of it. The romance is desperate, fragile, and achingly real.

But then... something changes.

As the series progresses, it starts leaning hard into yuri tropes. Admittedly, it was doing this a bit at the start, but sparingly so. One of the earliest issues is the healing magic system: in this world, healing magic only works if you kiss the person on the mouth. At first, it seems like a stylized take on CPR in a magical setting, but it quickly becomes obvious that it’s a convenient excuse to spark romantic tension. That tension might have worked better in a story with lighter stakes, but here, it feels more like forced intimacy than organic worldbuilding.

Reading past chapter 20 or so, plotlines emerge that exist only to push relationships forward, even if they clash with the tone. By chapter 38, we’ve watched dates, picnics, and "accidental" teacher-supported matchmaking. The looming specter of war fades. What once felt like tragic inevitability starts feeling... normal.

And that’s the problem. The more the manga indulges in genre comfort zones, the more it abandons its most powerful idea. I'm not saying that the tragic element of the story disappears entirely. But in later chapters, it feels like the story forgets that these girls are being trained to DIE. And with that forgetting, the emotional weight begins to evaporate.

Worse still, the story begins to feel decorative. A fantasy world full of war, bloodshed, and moral rot, but only when convenient. A perpetually ten-year-old girl being kissed by her teacher as “healing”? Played for comedy. A crossdressing student introduced just for a character to tell them they should do what feels right to them? Tossed in like a checkbox tick. Even the perverted teacher Furan--who in a darker, more honest story could have been a symbol of systemic abuse--becomes a quirky confidante. The story pulls its punches, and the truth of the world gets lost in the fluff.

And that’s the tragedy--not of the characters, but of the story itself. "I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day" has the potential to be a deeply chilling, beautiful, unforgettable exploration of love, war, and the last human bonds formed in the shadow of death. But instead, it often chooses comfort over courage, and it hurts the work.

So far, in spite of the criticisms, this is a very decent work. It’s clear the author is trying to build something meaningful, and if the story can course-correct, recenter its tone, trust its world, and fully lean into the emotional and ethical horror it started with, this could easily be a great series! I WANT to love this story. But so far: I only like it. I’m not in love with what it is--I’m in love with what it could be. And my hope is that the author will come to recognize where the story’s real strength lies and develop it into something truly outstanding.

A fantasy Yuri set against the backdrop of war and child soldiers. I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day is soon to be adapted into an anime by the ROLL2 studio. I really wanted to discover this manga.
It's a striking title that catches your eye straight away. The themes are dark, despite the bubbly cover and Mimi, who is very positive and naive in her interactions.
The world and the story are intriguing, especially the end of the volume, which really makes you want to continue. We know very little about what's going on outside the school, as Sheena doesn't leave; but Mimi suggests ... that we'll soon see what's going on outside the school (and it promises to be exciting and bloody!). The manga has potential.
I liked the premise, the only downside being the adult nurse who takes pleasure in treating her teenage pupils by kissing them (even though it's the ‘concept’ of healing magic, it's inappropriate).
