This manga is pretty enjoyable, but we all have to admit that there are many problems. In particular, the premise itself of this story and other events make no sense. I will clarify soon. Before starting with this review, I would like to apologize if you find mistakes while reading this. English is not my first language.
The female lead, Mio, is an introverted and extremely shy girl who is not able to socialize at all. She does not even go to school because of something that happened when she was in middle school. Mio has a twin brother, Yuuta, and he is her complete opposite.
...
He has many friends; he is lively and full of energy.
First problem: now you are probably curious about the reason why Mio has become like that, right? Well, this is the no-sense premise I was talking about. In middle school, a girl from her class freaked out because Mio had lent a pen to the boy the girl liked. Mio had no idea that she had a crush on that boy, so the girl told her something like: “you are so inconsiderate, you were the only one who didn’t realize it!!”
For this stupid reason, Mio decided not to go to school anymore and she locked herself in her room. I mean- what the heck?! Are you kidding me? I thought you had been bullied for years or beaten up... but you just got yelled at by some dumb little girl for no reason!
Okay, it is time to go on because there is another thing that does not make sense (and it is also the second premise of this story). Do you remember I talked about Yuuta, her brother? Well, he falls in love with a girl but she will soon leave Japan to go study in Australia. Now you will think: "how unfortunate, this poor boy will have to wait for her for years! At least they will be able to talk on the phone, right?"
Yeah, I wish it had happened. Yuuta is so desperate that he asks his sister to switch life with him so that he can go to Australia in place of her (because their mother wanted Mio to go study there). For this reason, she will have to go live in the boy’s dormitory where he used to stay and try to behave normally with his brother’s friends. Oh right, you should know that Mio and Yuuta are both skinny and have short hair.
Anyway… Mio accepts after a few days, so Yuuta goes to Australia.
I do not think it is just me who thinks that this thing does not make much sense. Mio cannot socialize; even if she may look like a boy, she is still a girl, and… come on, living in the boy’s dormitory? Is Yuuta stupid?? If my twin brother (yeah, I have one) was like that, I would have killed him for sure.
Another problem (and the least problematic, to be honest) I want to talk about needs a spoiler warning. If you do not want spoilers, do not continue reading (it is about chapter 12).
Mio finally decides to confess her feeling to the mail lead, Rin (who knows she is a girl). How does she do that? In front of the whole school! A genius! Nobody knows she is a girl because everyone thinks that she is Yuuta. Well, I guess this could be some kind of revenge.
Luckily, Rin manages to make it look like everything is just a performance and nothing that happened is true.
The last strange thing is that in the end Yuuta returns and stays in Japan without any regret... like- really? After all this mess in which you involved your poor sister, you just give up your dream to stay in the same country as the girl you love? Okay…
I know I wrote many criticisms about this manga but in the end, I enjoyed reading it.
If you do not know what to do, if you want to fill your time, and if you are looking for a simple and cute love story, this manga is for you.
