Light romance built on eating home cooked meals together.

Up to learning some delicious new recipes? The main course for both of these stories is the depiction of cooking with the side dish of relationships and everyday happenings told in a lighthearted and comfortable way.

These manga have a similar relationship dynamic -- a domestic minded guy ends up taking care of his neighbor, and they end up becoming good friends with no notion of romance at first. But these manga are still so different you definitely won't feel like they're just copying each other, which is a problem I have with some recs. Toradora is a high school romantic comedy, while Tonari wa Nani wo Kuu Hito zo is a cooking manga with a romance in it, in a college setting.

When an amazing cook who loves cooking enters the life of the protagonist, someone who can't cook yet loves eating, a new relationship (and the manga) begins. From then on, the two learn about each other while cooking a variety of recipes (the whole recipes included at the end of each chapter!) using the ingredients their parents send them. Of course, there are differences since Tonari is a romance story while Shinmai is CGDCT, but both pairs' love for food is unmistakeable, which helps them grow closer and learn to live in close proximity (neighbors in Tonari, cohabiting sisters in Shinmai).

The protagonists remind me a lot of each other in that they are cheerful and hardworking but also a bit useless in a way that is played for laughs. Also their love of food! The relationship development between the FMC and MMC is also very similar in that they are friends for a long time first, with their romance developing slowly, sweetly, and organically.

Cooking for yourself, alone- the struggle is real. Both of these are rom-coms about women trying to cook alone. Tonari wa is more shoujo and culminates with a solid couple and improved cooking skills, whereas Sumire-sensei is a josei and plays up the comedy more. I don't doubt Sumire-sensei will end up happy too, but I do sometimes doubt her cooking skills will improve at all...

Cute romances based around a man who can cook cooking for his love interest and becoming closer. Tonari is general home cooking while Yaiteru is focused on grilling on a BBQ.

Both are gentle romances about women who have moved far from home and are not eating properly. Bentouya-san has a more mature and flawed MC, whereas Tonari is about a more innocent college girl. Both male leads heal the MC with their cooking and support.

Both manga feature a college student who is helped out by her neighbour and slowly falls in love. They are both heartwarming manga that not only develops the romance but also relationships between friends and parents.
