STREET RACING/ INNOCENT PURE LOVE?
OLD 86-> NEW 86
Cars Engines ROOM ROOM ROOM ROOOOOOM, BURRRRR, SCREECH, ok this sums up what you are going to see most of the time. Lol
Minor Spoiler:
As a sequel to "Initial D", "MF Ghost" takes place when Takumi is a middle-aged uncle ;( Kanata, the apprentice of Takumi, decides to challenge the street racing culture in Japan. And of course, to spice things up, girls are included in this manga. I mean cars and girls are perfect combo... I think? ;)
Story: 7
...
Ok, lets think about this. Why do we love Initial D? Because we love the imagination of drift and speed on the mountain roads. While seeing those cars driving through pages and pages, we get to imagine the sound of those cars and hope that Takumi can win the seemingly "impossible" to win races. MF Ghost is kinda like the same thing. Do you believe 86 can beat Lambo or Ferrari? like seriously... how is that even fair? This is a simple story, so that is why I give it a 7.
The Progress will definitely be SLOW, just like that of Initial D (pretty much expected).
This manga ISN'T BORING at all (because the intention for me to read is to enjoy the feeling of racing in the mountains). If you are seeking a manga that can enlighten you with deep thoughts, I don't think this is the right manga xD
Is it easy to guess? Reading up until chapter 32 so far, the result is actually NOT EASY TO PREDICT. If the author is actually going to let 86 beat Ferrari in the first race, I will seriously gonna burst out laughing for the story planning. But, it isn't going to happen now (for the first race at least... I think... :x )
Art: 10
The details for the cars and the environment are awesome. I am glad that the Mangaka is able to maintain his strength.Judging on the characters, I mean... this is manga (art pieces combine together)... and it is true that the characters do look "prehistoric"; however, I don't really mind about it at all. Every Mangaka has his/her own style and I don't think the characters look "unnatural" or "outdated". If you love Initial D, I wouldn't want to make the characters in the sequel look way too different from that of the art style of Initial D; otherwise, it will be strange...
So far, I am pretty satisfied with the art of MF Ghost using the standard of Initial D. I love the effort Shuuichi San puts the effort into drawing those cars <3 thank you.
Character: 7 (only humans) --> 10 (if include the cars) :DDDDD
Characters can be a tricky category. This manga like "Initial D" makes me feel that the cars are also the main characters too. Since this is the case, the rating can vary.
Since this is about a street racing manga, the human characters shouldn't be
too intricated to understand. It should be straightforward. For example, Kanata (the student of Takumi) should be really really good. Ren (a racing showgirl and a friend of Kanata) will "accidentally" have a crush on Kanata. Nothing to special. So a 7 is a good rating :)
Enjoyment: 10
To enjoy, you need to have patience... like seriously... why can't there be 10 Shuuichi San drawing at the same time... ;(
Ok, since I have the experience with Initial D, I always wait it out and enjoy MF Ghost when they have 5 new chapters. Then, of course, I binged read them and wonder when the **** will there be another 5 chapters again. The reason I wait for around 5 chapters each time is because the story is indeed slow (races are spanned acrosee more than 20-40 chapters for sure) and watching 5 chapters at a time is the best way for me to enjoy MF Ghost with the understanding of what is going on .
Overall: 9 or 10
Initial D is better? This question is really silly. There are 724 chapters in Initial D and it is "Completed". On the other hand, MF Ghost is still around chapter 40 so far and it is still "Ongoing". If you don't have the patience for waiting. Binged reading "Initial D" is of course better.
I sincerely believe that "MF Ghost" does have the ability to match up to the quality and content of "Initial D". So due to the unpredictability, 9 or 10 is the score, will give it a 10 for faith xD
Using the iPhone XS and the first ever iPhone comparison, you can treat iPhone XS as "MF Ghost" and the first iPhone as Initial D. iPhone XS have better graphics, camera, and technology. iPhone (revolutionary) is indeed outdated in terms of the processors and things like that. Yet, the fundamental focus of these two phones are the same, you can use them for telephone and take pictures. Just like that of "MF Ghost" and "Initial D", cars and the thrill for speed on the mountain speed is what audience are seeking for. :))))

Story:
Pretty boring overall Very slow progression through each chapter The interaction between each of the characters is repetitive. In one scene, two characters are doing something and in the next scene, another set of characters are doing the exact same thing. Things that should only take up couple pages end up taking multiple chapters Each chapter's events are easy to guess just by reading couple of the beginning pages Art: The cars and the environment look great. The characters look pretty bad, they do not look natural. It's the kind of style that may have passed in the 80s and the 90s, but would not pass today. The disconnect between ... Feb 9, 2019
Mf ghost was supposed to be the successor to Initial D, a manga and anime series that's really popular in Japan and around the world due to it's great races and ost (Obviously the ost part is just for the anime adaptation), however, it fails miserably in trying to take it's appeal further.
First, the characters are even weaker than the ones in Initial d. Great characters was never the strong point of the series but Mf ghost throws any bit of what Initial d had of good in the trash, most of the characters are flat and lack depth for the series to focus exclusively ... Oct 11, 2018
This will be my first review so forgive me if its bad.
As a fan of Initial D this caught my eye for a while but i decided to give it a read as my 2nd ever manga im actually commited to. The story could use alot more improvement but i see a lot of potential for each character. It is also nice to hear about an old friend from back in the days and what happened to him. Art on the cars and environment is amazing but the characters sometimes look really off and derpy so to say. The story also takes an interesting concept of something that ... Jan 24, 2023
Ah this is getting an anime so I assume people will flock here to see what people think of it. Especially now that a new trailer has dropped.
This is my review as someone who has watched Initial D. MF Ghost is the unofficial sequel of Initial D set in the same universe. Story - 5 you see MF ghost's story is similar to Initial D but less believable. Initial D was strictly mountain racing just uphill or downhill but in MF Ghost you have circuit race in the mountains. Essentially you have an uphill and downhill and a long straight in between. This circuit mechanic makes the racing ... Jan 3, 2022
We follow Kanata Rivington. A half-British, half-Japanese racing prodigy who doesn't seem to be trying all that hard to look for his dad.
He's invited to participate in MFG. He does well because before the story even starts, he completed his entire training arc with retired protagonist turned pro-driving instructor, Takumi Fujiwara. Story: This is not Initial D. Kanata does not go on a journey to be the fastest. He does not want to establish himself as a legend. He does not want to win the championship. So what's the story here? Unsure, but what it feels like is like a tour around Kanagawa. A love letter to Japanese food and ... Dec 30, 2024
Just a short review for this one.
I love Initial D, I really enjoy MF Ghost. The main character is weaker, there's not as much development there, he just is an incredible driver, who was trained by Takumi from the original series. The real "character" that gets developed is the car, that needs to get overhauled and built up for each race. The races themselves are also a very interesting character and the combination of the car versus the race, versus the other driver really gets me going, and has me excited for this series, and finding out how it all ... this is my first review, and I must say that I am mostly disappointed with this manga. first of all, there are too many characters, and keeping track of them are hard. most are cliched and stock character and the story, even after twelve volume is going nowhere. it really alarming when the true highlight moments are the reappearance of Initial D characters. the ML is simply a watered down version of Takumi Fujiwara, and as this is a futurefic, it really does not seem to have the integrated feeling like it's predecessor. the races, thanks to large number of participants, spans through long chapters,

I love initial d. In 2017, Shuichi Shigeno realized that the only way for himself to get money was to write manga about cars like he did 30 years ago. reading MF Ghost has been nothing but downright horrible ever since its debut. From seriously creepy character choices, straight up making stuff up about car functions, and the basic concept of a stock toyota beating out 911's and 488s is insane. I dont know how this man is even allowed to continue, let alone get his own anime (again.) I hope he puts down the pen and realizes that he peaked in the 90s and
