Now this...This is an underrated and underhyped piece of work. It's difficult to review this without giving away significant spoilers that would ruin the fun for everything. I can't even begin to describe the mix of genres within this story because I really had no idea what was going on sometimes (in a good way). There's suspense, comedy, slice-of-life, borderline horror, a bit of gore and even a few sprinkles of romance. It's a tale of two boys while they try to come of age, adapt to life with their new adoptive parents, overcome difficulties in their new school, all ... the while trying to uncover a secret big enough to involve most of the town they live in, and most of all, living as one person instead of two. There's so much packed in the story, there is not one wasted chapter yet it's not overwhelming or stressful to read and somehow everything fits well to come together as a whole story. It's weirdly amazing.

The beautiful writing of course extends to the characters and their development. Dari and Migi, our main protagonists, start out as two lonely children who had no one else to depend on apart from each other. The writing shows how witty but delicate it can be as we follow their funny, warm but sometimes heartbreaking journey to find trust, support and warmth from people around them, and to reconcile with their memories and their past selves. The supporting cast is also a joy to read about. Everyone pulls their own weight in the story to create a mysterious, suspenseful, sometimes even creepy, vibe as we learn more about the twins' past and what they are trying to uncover. But there are also plenty of light-hearted interactions between the characters that are integrated into the story and we see how interactions with different people gradually shape the two boys. It's really just so endearing to see them grow and accept themselves at the end of the story. While I started this for the mystery and humour, I was won over in the end by how genuine the character development for the boys was.

Least commendable is the art but I do think it's good enough for the story and the expressions can get really exquisite sometimes and adds just enough to create the right atmosphere.

There are cases where the premise starts out original and interesting but the follow up is weak, predictable or starts to mellow out what was originally interesting about it. Not this though. Migi to Dari had an engaging premise to start out with and the follow up packed more than a punch. Recommended for anyone looking for a manga packed with suspense, dark humour, character growth and don't mind light portrayals of boys' love or crossdressing that has no real implications and absolutely goes nowhere.

I first picked up Migi to Dali after I saw this manga would receive an anime adaptation.

That being said, I would like to begin with an excerpt from the manga at the start of Vol. 6 that explains the story a little more in detail for those whom are interested (if you are not please skip this part!), since I felt like for me the summary wasn't able to fully grab my attention, please be advised it could be spoiler or not depending on how you take it:

Migi to Dali is a story "that takes place in 1990 within the Newtown Oregon village located in ... the northern district of Kobe city. [The] twin brothers, Migi and Dali, assume the identity of a single boy named 'Hitori Sonoyama' as they enter the village. The reason why they've done so is to seek and exact revenge on their Mother's murderer."

To begin with, the first thoughts that ever came to mind as I started where "Bizzare," and "creepy." And this is exactly what the story is like, everything is just so bizarre and eerily creepy that it gives me goosebumps! Of course, as the story progresses....things only get more disturbing! This story is definitely for those who enjoy mystery and thrillers.

The story is intriguing, the mystery of it all was done well by the author in my opinion. At some points, as I read, things got a bit confusing but I blame that it on the way it was story boarded. However, the art is gorgeously done! And the way it is done does a very good job of adding to the effect of the hair-rising atmosphere it has going on. This is especially true with the time period this is based on as well.

In terms of characters, I find them all to be great. Not to be biased because I like the story, but really because almost all of the characters are just strange and their actions are weird but justifyingly so. For example, the twins Dali and Migi, the way the act is super strange and weird, but it's because due to their circumstances while growing up they didn't have an environment in which they could adequately learn certain things. In the story we always witness them learning certain things, that to is just common sense. However, to them everything is a whole new world, which is interesting in the way they are able to adapt relatively fast and are able to work around stuff in order to solve the mystery.

All in all, this all I can really think about in regards to Migi and Dali. This is a story that I do recommend people to pick up and just give it a try, before you know it, you will also be eager in trying to figure out the mystery of just what the hell is happening in this small town and what secret it's trying to hide. Although, I didn't give it a score higher than 7, I genuinely enjoyed this manga and all it had to offer so I look forward to the anime!

Migi to Dali is the kind of story that gets unexpectedly darker with each chapter and I LOVE IT.

Normally, stories like this don’t make sense and don’t have purpose. But this one has a proper plot and dark twists and characters that actually belong. I also appreciated the fact that although the two main characters are twins, they had very distinct personalities and I could easily decipher who was who.

The story itself has dark undertones, death and murder in particular. Which is why I was surprised when it also had some comedic elements to it. There were also moments where I cried, and had ... anxiety-induced heart palpitations because you just don’t want them to get caught!!!

I didn’t think I’d enjoy reading this as much as I did, but to my surprise it’s a new favorite. Overall, I’d give it a 9/10, since I’ve yet to read the final volume.

I can’t wait for the anime adaptation, whenever that may be, and hopefully they do Migi and Dali justice! :)

I've never read a manga quite like this before. It's quirky, mysterious, goofy, creepy, and doesn't have much gore. The creepiness really comes from the manipulation and what you'd expect.

Migi is a more ill-tempered twin brother whose bangs hang on the left side of him (our right) and Dali is the more cold and calculated brother that plans an manipulates the scene with his bangs hanging on his right (our left side). You see some character developments, mainly from Migi, and eventually from Dali near the end.

I won't include any major spoilers, however, I will state there are some things that might put off ... some readers and that's the fact that some chapters, especially at the beginning, seems to go nowhere or random. I'd like to think it's the calm before the storm, though.

Overall, there are lots of twists.
