I’m a pretty big Lucario and Pokémon fan, capable of dealing with some incredibly childish and stupid manga, but even I could barely make it through this. Let’s just say there’s a reason it’s only one volume. The art at first seemed somewhat unique, based on the cover, but the actual manga art is a joke compared to the Pokémon Adventures manga. The faces just kind of look like a ripoff of Slayers (of all things) except with none of the amazing facial expressions, awesome fights and sick magical attacks of that manga. They managed to draw Lucario decently at least (most of the Pokémon

look fine) in fact one of the panels with him is even cool enough that I tried drawing it in Flipnote when I was younger.
What kills it is the terrible fight choreography. Honestly when Pokémon Adventures, or the Diamond and Pearl manga predated this I don’t understand why it looks so bad.
Perhaps it could be saved if the story was decent, but it isn’t. Basically the main character is a Robin Hood style their who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. For some reason, he keeps this identity secret from his close friends Andy even his family. Id understand keeping it private from strangers but lying to his family and friends constantly makes no sense since it just leads to them getting hurt. For instance, he intentionally makes his Lucario fight weaker whenever he isn’t playing his “Phatnom Theif” persona, which constantly leads to the two of them getting beat up and even made fun of by his own sister. This is incredibly stupid and a bad way to encourage people to play your games that are entirely about fighting stronger and having a bond with your Pokémon.
Later on in the manga a girl he knew for some reason (I wasn’t paying attention) gets kidnapped and mind controlled and he beats her easily, and the scene just completely ignores her unconscious body in the corner while the characters go on talking. There’s actually a lot of weird kind of disturbing stuff like that in the manga, like Lucario stabs someone in the butt with his spike at one point in a panel which is kind of hilarious but also incredibly weird.
Overall, don’t waste your time.
