The main character's abilities and the art in both of these stories are very different. Yet, -they are both ossan who play VR -they are suddenly thrown into their game world as if it were real and are stuck in it -both of the main characters are older in age and use their experience. This is may not seem like much, but it's the way they act as a character that gives each of these stories a particular charm. In 'Kansha' he's a calm main character and, just as it says in the title, lives his life feeling thankful for his second chance. In fact, his thankfulness seems to seep from him as he seems to unknowingly find just the right words to heals the spirits of those around him. The story '40 Kenja' is similar in this way, that he brings hope to people(mostly beautiful women)around him. Unlike the aforementioned character though, his charm is found in his wit instead of wisdom. He makes jokes and things that seem to light up a room whereas 'kansha' seems to heal people's spirits with an honest smile at the right time. This could be attributed to their ages, as well. the main character in 'kansha' is 70 years old. In this way, '40 kenja' is a much more upbeat story while 'kansha' is satisfying in a more calming and laid back way. By now, they seem like totally different stories that have little in common. Yet despite their differences the flow of the stories are similar as well as the type of aura(or feel?)they give off. If you've already read one of these stories and are looking for something similar, I suggest taking a look at the other as you may find yourself enjoying it more then you'd hoped! :D read more 

Both of these stories are about -middle-aged men -who have OP ancient magic that can't be found now -who are well-known from their time, which is in the past, and very powerful -that find a young, blonde girl from a prominent household in a forest while they are on their way home(the girls are on their way home) -they save the young girl from DEATH and are invited to the girl's home -of course, while saving the girls, their op power is revealed and they are offered to stay in the prominent household's home to teach the young girl -both girls, despite being from a prominent household, are having troubles with magic and are looked down on in their household -After meeting the girls the middle-aged men quickly change the girl's mind about a belief of hers and gives her hope -which ends up with the young girls having 'feelings' towards these older men Despite this, the feeling of both of these stories are quite different and as they progress they seem to stray further and further from each other. Though I say this not having read all of both of them. For example, though they both have OP magic beyond what is expected, one of them wants to learn about modern magic and turns himself into a young boy to go to school(Monogatari)while going around willy-nilly doing whatever the hell he wants. On the other hand, the middle-aged man(from around 40(years)kenja)actually changes the current overly difficult magic into something more palatable. Honestly, I enjoy 'around 40 kenja' better. By a lot. His wit and come-backs are hilarious and get me every time. Instead of just being 'oh wow, he's so OP!' it's funny, ecchi, and more realistic. I really appreciate that kind of thing in a story. But those are just my thoughts... Hope this helped you find what you were looking for~! <3  read more
